The iPhone 20 is a device that is going to be designed, developed, manufactured, and marketed by Apple.[1] It will be announced in 2027 and it will use a curved design.[2][3][4][5] Apple will skip the IPhone 19, going straight to 20 for the IPhone's 20th Anniversary.[6][7][8]
History
Development
The technology behind the 20th Anniversary iPhone was in development for a few years, starting in 2025. It was rumored that the device would feature a wraparound display that curves around all of the edges, which it will feature no bezels at all, and it would be a single piece of glass with no squared edges and no cutouts at the front.[1] In October 2025, it was rumored that Apple would skip the name iPhone 19, going straight to 20, which is a broader attempt to reset the iPhone's naming system and revitalize the product lineup around the device's 20th anniversary.[6] In March 2026, it was rumored that the phone was to feature a radical curved design, showing a mock-up image for the convex display glass curving down at the edges.[9] Apple has evaluated Samsung's under-panel camera (UPC) technology as an alternative to the under-display camera (UDC).[9] It was rumored that the iPhone 20 would ship with a Dynamic Island or a punch-hole cutout, which would be paired with Samsung's "Polar ID" face authentication system.[9]
In May 2026, renders for the iPhone 20 were unveiled, revealing its new design, showing all four sides of the iPhone 20 curving around the edges.[10][11][12] Samsung was also reported to be the supplier for the OLED Display for the iPhone 20.[10][11][12] It was also rumored that Apple was going to replace lithium-ion batteries with silicon-anode batteries, which would result in exceptionally high runtimes.[10][11][12] The renders also show that there’s only a dual-camera configuration at the back.[10][11][12] It was also rumored that the iPhone 20 would feature solid-state buttons, which have passed rigorous testing scenarios with use cases like users wearing gloves, pressing the buttons with wet hands, and in extreme temperature conditions, which will register presses and provide haptic feedback even when the phone is completely switched off.[13] It was also rumored that the next-gen iPhone was to feature a 6,000mAh battery with reverse wireless charging capabilities.[13]
Rumors
Rumors of a drastic iPhone redesign began circulating shortly after the WWDC 2026 event in the second quarter of 2026.[14][15] There were rumors that the iPhone 20 would be available in two sizes, which suggests that the iPhone 20 could be available in 6.3 and 6.9-inch sizes, along with a 2-nanometer A21 chip.[14][15] The 20th Anniversary iPhone would be code-named V73 and V74 as the successor to the iPhone 18 Pro.[16][15]
