Sandun Perera (born 19 March 1994) is a Sri Lankan pop singer and songwriter.[1] He gained widespread recognition in the Sri Lankan music industry in 2016 following the release of his commercial debut single, "Ayeth Warak".
Early life and education
Perera was raised in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He received his primary education at Soysa Vidyalaya Moratuwa. He completed his secondary education in the Commerce stream at Nalanda College, Colombo. Although he qualified for university admission, he chose to pursue a full-time career in the music industry.[2]
Music career
Sandun began his musical journey in his early twenties as a lyricist, writing the song "Sansara Gaane" (Mal Sihinaya 2) for popular singer Yashan de Silva and Shanudrie Priyasad in 2015.[3] In 2016, he penned the lyrics for the popular World Cup cricket song "Sinha Wise" (produced by Yashan de Silva), which featured several prominent Sri Lankan national cricketers including Dinesh Chandimal and Dasun Shanaka.[4][5]
In 2020, he released the track "Godak Adarei", accompanied by an official music video filmed on location, which further sustained his presence in the contemporary Sinhala pop scene.[6]
In January 2024, Perera released the single "Arabi Kumari". The track experienced rapid digital traction, reaching the number one trending position on major video and media streaming platforms in Sri Lanka within 21 hours of its official launch.[7]
Personal life
Perera resides in Moratuwa with his parents and two sisters. He is married, and the couple has a child.[8]
