Naming of the article

@Mehedi Abedin bhai, hello! While I appreciate the making of this article, I have a concern that its naming seems somewhat vague and ambiguous. The article is only about his arrest on 26 March 1971 which is undoubtedly a significant event in the timeline of Bangladesh Liberation War. However, Sheikh Mujib was arrested several times before 1971 according to established sources. You can consider renaming it to Operation Big Bird (Pakistan), which in my opinion, is very suitable for this article. — Meghmollar2017 (UTC) — 02:51, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

@Meghmollar2017 the title "Operation Big Bird" is not widely used on reliable sources and scholarly articles. That's we can't consider move the article to your proposed title. It is true that Mujib was arrested several times before 1971. But there is no article about his previous arrest. And his 1971 arrest is widely known enough to be WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. However, Agartala conspiracy was his another arrest. So we can create a disambiguation page for them. Mehedi Abedin 03:57, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

PS. "Arrest of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (1971)" is another option, but parentheses are generally used when there is another article with the title "Arrest of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman" which is not a case here. — Meghmollar2017 (UTC) — 02:51, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

@Mehedi Abedin bhai, I disagree with you that 1971 arrest was the most significant incident. Other incidents of his arrests can be significant as well. Therefore we can not consider that to be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The main point of my argument was the title is not distinguishable enough from other incidents of his imprisonment or, let's say, from an article, if made, about an overview of all the incidents combined. We have to eliminate the ambiguity from the title. If Operation Big Bird (Pakistan) doesn't seem suitable, we can consider the name Imprisonment of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during Bangladesh Liberation War. — Meghmollar2017 (UTC) — 04:26, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
@Meghmollar2017 In that case, please create a move request for the article. Let's have consensus. However, the title Imprisonment of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during Bangladesh Liberation War is too long so maybe we need others input. Mehedi Abedin 04:44, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

Arrest of Sheikh Mujibur RahmanImprisonment of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during Bangladesh Liberation War – As I have discussed earlier in this very talk page with @Mehedi Abedin bhai, I would like to request for other people's comments on the possible naming of this article. — Meghmollar2017 (UTC) — 08:46, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

  • Oppose: not WP:concise. The sole rationale for the move is that Other incidents of his arrests can be significant as well. Therefore we can not consider that to be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. That is a misreading of WP:PTOPIC. The primary topic is determined by relative significance. Other candidate primary topics may, in themselves, be ‘significant’ in absolute terms without impinging on the most significant topic’s status as the primary topic. Docentation (talk) 13:35, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
@Docentation, I may have misrepresented my understanding on WP:PTOPIC. @Mehedi Abedin bhai, in his later comments have already mentioned there are other significant incidents of his arrests, including the 1968 Agartala Case, which is also a significant one which led to 1969 mass uprising. His imprisonment during 1967–68, when the The Unfinished Memoirs is said to be written, is also a matter of academic debate. They have significant coverage as well. You see, these incidents are part of a series of imprisonments during his lifetime, which deserves its own article as Arrests of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman or so. This overview article should the primary topic in my opinion. The current article covers only a single event, making the title vague and misleading. When we are writing an article about a single event from a series of incidents with a title like this, we lack the precision of the title. Though it is not a good practise to mention articles from different context, I would like to mention the articles Bangladesh quota reform movement, 2013 Bangladesh quota reform movement and 2024 Bangladesh quota reform movement, which I think, shows us the case we are talking about. The 2024 incident being the most significant one does not necessarily make it WP:PTOPIC. Just like these articles, adding a specific time will be WP:PRECISE. The title 1971 arrest of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman suggested by Mehedi bhai seems suitable for me. — Meghmollar2017 (UTC) — 17:33, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
    1. You are misunderstanding how WP:PRECISE is to be applied. [W]hen a topic's preferred title can also refer to other topics covered in Wikipedia[, i]f the article is about the primary topic to which the ambiguous name refers, then that name can be its title without modification, provided it follows all other applicable policies. In other words, primary topics can acceptably occupy given titles despite the potential ambiguity; the question boils down to the application of WP:PTOPIC.
    2. You are still misunderstanding WP:PTOPIC, which is about relative significance. They have significant coverage as well. All right, but should we doubt that the 1971 arrest is
    • much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term, or
    • has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term?
This is what you need to show, preferably through references. If you do, then the RM will make sense.
    Docentation (talk) 17:59, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
  • Oppose and I agree with Docentation about relative significance. Mujib was arrested many times, but his most significant arrest happened in 1971 which maintains WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Agartala conspiracy, his 1968 arrest, is important too, but in 1968 he was arrested with 34 people. The other arrests was only for short term and have little significance and creating articles for them will not maintain notability criteria. The 1971 incident is also known by "Operation Big Bird" which is not widely used on reliable sources. Also the proposed title "Imprisonment of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during Bangladesh Liberation War" is too long. If anyone really want to move this page, the better title should be 1971 arrest of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. But I am against the move proposal because of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.
