Article scope: Soul sleep and mortality of the soul
This article seems to discuss what seems to me to be two distinct issues:
the belief that the human soul is not naturally immortal
the belief that the soul is uncomprehending
immediately after death.
While I understand that these views are related. I think they should be split into different articles. What do others think? Daask (talk) 16:37, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- I vote yes. It will make it less confusing for people reading it. ~2026-34113-17 (talk) 16:28, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
Adding Links to Related Articles
Can someone who’s knowledgeable about Wikipedia add the links “Conditional Immortality” and “Soul in the Bible” to this article?? It’s time that this article gets a little more improved!! SassyForAReason (talk) 15:44, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
I’ve added more information for Christian Mortalism
I’ve added more arguments for Christian Mortalism and added info to the introduction paragraph. I copied and pasted them from three different Wikipedia articles, “Conditional Immortality,” “Last Judgment,” and “Christian Anthology.” I’ve also used the term “soul sleep” throughout the article since I think that Jehovah Witnesses and Seventh-Day Adventists use it. Any improvement would help. Thanks. 😊❤️🙏2601:407:C400:733:DDFF:1FA5:686C:B37A (talk) 23:57, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
Soul sleep not accurate
I object to the term "soul sleep" to refer to the beliefs described here. That does not accurately reflect these beliefs. Most who do not accept the inherent immortality of the human soul do not believe the soul "sleeps"! They believe the soul or person ceases to exist at death! 66.38.21.220 (talk) 03:09, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
Conflict with Nicene Creed
Please add a section discussing the potential conflict with the Nicene Creed. Of Jesus, it states, "He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead..." implies that the dead have not yet been judged, so how can they be either in heaven or in hell? Or did we miss the Second Coming? The Fifth Lateran Council as cited in the article seems to be ignoring this inconvenience. Either the Nicene Creed states the faith or it does not, it can't be both. 98.151.249.222 (talk) 07:58, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Mixed up
There seems to be a mix-up between two related but different ideas here:
1. Those believe that soul, upon death, don't go to heaven or hell and stay with the dead body, unconscious, until the judgement day.
2. Those believe that soul, upon death, don't go to heaven or hell and stay with the dead body, still conscious, until the judgement day.
Examples needs explaining which version of these they're talking about. ~2026-23396-44 (talk) 10:02, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
I need some edit advice!!
I think a AI bot detected I was editing this article. I’m new to editing Wikipedia and if I messed up this article, I’m deeply sorry. I did the same thing with the Wikipedia article on The Clear Word Bible and Wikipedia deleted it. I feel even more horrible that no one has attempted to make a new article on it. If I make unnecessary edits, please revert, or if you have to, block me. Again I’m very sorry. I love Wikipedia, and I don’t want Wikipedia to delete any more articles because of my bad editing skills. It would also be nice if Wikipedia restored its article on The Clear Word Bible by Jack Blanco before I messed it up. Any professional editors out there who can do that!? I know the guy too which makes it worse. ~2026-34113-17 (talk) 03:47, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
Possible Name Change
I have a proposition. Since there’s already a Wikipedia article on conditional immortality (the belief that the human soul is not naturally immortal), this Wikipedia article is about the belief that the soul “sleeps” until the resurrection of the dead. Is the term Soul Sleep really that offensive!? Can’t we just change it to that!? Also the definition is in reserve. It should say, “Christian Mortalism is the Christian belief the soul is ‘sleeping’ after death until the Resurrection of the Dead and the Last Judgment and includes the belief that Soul is not naturally immortal.”~2026-34113-17 (talk) 13:57, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
