Hello, I will be reviewing this article. At first, I was not sure of my eligibility to review Jeanne, but my last edits occurred in 2014 (other than when I used the IABotManagementConsole while writing this review), while there have been significant modifications (by other users) to the contents of one of my sandboxes that was copied and pasted here in 2020.--12george1 (talk) 06:50, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- The opening sentence talks about Jeanne being one of the deadliest Atlantic hurricanes ever and the fourth hurricane to impact Florida in 2004, but I'm not seeing where either of these things are mention again and cited. Correct me if I'm wrong
- My mistake, I never got around to actually citing that, I added citations. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Jeanne struck The Bahamas and eastern Florida on September 25" - Per UTC, the landfall in The Bahamas occurred on September 25, but the Florida landfall was early on September 26
- Fixed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "precipitation on the island of Guadeloupe, damaging hundreds of buildings on the island of Guadeloupe from floods" - I wasn't sure why you did this at first, but then I realized that Basse-Terre does not have an article. Still, I've seen a lot of wikilinks for that place redirect to Guadeloupe#Geography. So maybe you could do that?
- Oh this was just me being dumb with the writing. Fixed having Guadeloupe twice. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Why are there are few places in the third paragraph of the lead where it says "Hurricane Jeanne" instead of just "Jeanne"?
- Removed both, they're unnecessary. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Total damage from Hurricane Jeanne in the continental United States was estimated at $7.5 billion,[nb 2] " - There's a comma instead of a period at the end
- Fixed, ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Parts of the MH don't mention a date very often, including six consecutive sentences in the last paragraph. There are a few other places where adding dates could be helpful, especially the opening sentences of the third and fourth paragraphs.
- Added a few. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Originally, the NHC anticipated that Jeanne would turn northwestward and move ashore northeastern Florida." - Is it really right to say "originally" here because we're talking about the 45th advisory/discussion?
- I changed it to "As late as September 24". I would have to cite additional discussions to show the continued NHC forecast of a recurve, but lemme know if this wording works. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "wind shear produced by Hurricane Ivan in the Caribbean." - It says "Caribbean" here with no wikilink, but in the second paragraph I see Caribbean Sea with a wikilink
- Switched around to link and spell out the first usage. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "After crossing into Virginia, Jeanne transitioned into an extratropical cyclone by September 29 near Washington, D.C. " - I guess this isn't technically wrong given the use of the word "by", but the infobox says that the ET occurred on September 28. TCR says 00:00 UTC on September 29
- I removed the extratropical transition date from the infobox as it's the same day as the dissipation, I didn't even notice this error. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "northeastern Caribbean, including the Anguilla," - Delete "the"
- Done. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "during the evuacuation were the Florida Turnpike" - Evacuation is misspelled
- Fxied. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Floodwaters inundated the island's international airport, temporarily closing it." - Considering that the previous paragraph ends with "Nationwide, about 800 homes were damaged or destroyed.", it would be better to name this island
- Agreed, I spelled out the airport here. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Government buildings across the Abaco islands sustained about" - Shouldn't that be "Abaco Islands" (with a capital I)?
- Thanks, good catch. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "sustained winds of 142 km/h (89 mph)" - Put mph first
- Fixed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Throughout the mainland United States, Hurricane Jeanne left $7.66 billion in damage" - The lead says $7.5 billion and that's from the updated version of the costliest US TCs from 2018, while this $7.66 billion figure is from the 2011 version
- Oh weird that it went down, I fixed it to use the updated version. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- I think you should mentioned Fujita scale somewhere and wikilink it
- Done. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "20 minute period" - "20-minute"?
- Changed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- " above normal, which flooded a few marinas.[83] Above normal" - Shouldn't this be "above-normal"?
- "high surf in North Carolina killed a swimmers in Corolla in Currituck County and Oak Island in Brunswick County." - I'm guessing it's supposed to say two swimmers. Btw the ref at the end of that sentence appears to mistakenly link to the same report twice, rather than one for Currituck County and another for Brunswick County
- Ack thanks for catching that! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Nantucket, Massachusetts recorded" - Comma after Massachusetts
- Added. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Over a 12 day period after the disaster" - 12-day?
- Added. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "which helped improved Haiti's capacity" ---> " which helped improve Haiti's capacity"
- Thanksed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "over a 19 day period." - 19-day?
- Added. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "producing 30,000 L (7,900 US gal) of clean water each day." - Why is litres first?
- Flipped. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "costs such debris removal." ---> "costs such as debris removal."
- Added. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "the state lead to a lack of polling data," ---> "the state led to a lack of polling data,"
- Fixed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "New Castle County, Delaware was also designated" - Comma after Delaware
- Added. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "On October 29, Internal Revenue Service" ---> "On October 29, the Internal Revenue Service"
- Fixed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Add at least the first names for the NHC TWD refs. E.g. Wallace --> Patricia Wallace
- Fixed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- "Hurricanes Change Florida Politics, ABC News, September 30, 2004. Retrieved April 18, 2025" - Put this ref in the {{cite news}} template
- Fixed. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
I think that's it. Overall, not a bad article, as most of the issues I've identified are minor in nature, so hopefully they aren't too difficult to solve or address. Thanks for working on this hurricane that I remember well, including seeing a Palm Beach Post frontpage headline with the words "NOT AGAIN!" in large print--12george1 (talk) 06:50, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- @12george1:, I think I got everything? Thanks so much for the review! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Hurricanehink:, I am going to pass this now. Good job!--12george1 (talk) 05:54, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
