New article — May 2026

Created this article from scratch. The subject meets WP:MILBIO as a U.S. Air Force major general, and additionally meets WP:GNG through his scholarly publications and senior role in Air Force institutional history.

Primary sources consulted:

  • AF.mil official biography — confirms all core career facts, education dates (BA 1948, MA 1950, PhD 1957), recall date (July 12, 1976), retirement date (July 12, 1981), promotion to MG (March 10, 1976, date of rank July 1, 1973), and awards list
  • Dignity Memorial obituary — confirms birth (March 6, 1925, Pittsburgh), death (June 18, 2021, Annapolis), post-retirement USNA faculty tenure, and USAFA DVP 1994–95
  • Military Times Hall of Valor — independently confirms awards (DFC with OLC, Air Medal with 3 OLC, JSCM, AFCM)
  • Air University Press PDFs (both volumes of American Airpower Comes of Age) — confirms editorship and Air University Press publication

Key editorial decisions:

  • Third Air Force command removed — the Norris article succession box listed Huston as predecessor at Third Air Force, but AFHRA unit lineage records and the official USAF biography place Evan W. Rosencrans there November 5, 1973 – August 1, 1977. The USAF biography instead places Huston's recalled active-duty service as Chief, Office of Air Force History from July 12, 1976. No primary source was found supporting a Third Air Force command for Huston; the succession box entry appears to be a Wikipedia error.
  • Service years expressed as active/Reserve periods per AF.mil.
  • European Theater used rather than "Germany and occupied France" — the narrower geography was not supported by Huston-specific mission records.
  • USAFA visiting professor (1994–95) placed in post-retirement paragraph per obituary, not grouped with the 1956–1976 USNA period.
  • WWI Air Service series publication dated 1978–1979 (not solely 1978) per Internet Archive.

Gaps for improvement:

  • No image available on Commons. USAF official portrait would be public domain if uploaded.
  • The succession box noting Huston's incorrect placement in the Norris article should be corrected there separately.
  • His Reserve-period assignments (1945–1976) are not fully documented in sources accessible online. Sparks19923 (talk) 01:54, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
