6 December 884 The king of West Francia after Louis III, he died aged around 18 near Les Andelys. Hunting in "the forest of Basiu", he came across a wild boar. While attacking the boar, his attendant Berthold wanted to help him and accidentally stabbed Carloman in the shin. Carloman survived for more than a week before dying.[4]
Li Yuanhao, Emperor Jingzong of Xia
19 January 1048 The founding emperor of the Tangut Western Xia dynasty died days after his nose was cut off in an attempted assassination carried out by his son, Prince Li Ningling. Ningling, together with Chancellor Mozang Epang, plotted to kill his father as revenge for seducing and marrying his wife.[5][6]

Hague and another female servant October 1881 A British servant of one Mr. Birchall was instructed by his master to retrieve a four-chambered pistol.[8] Hague did so, but while examining the gun he shot himself in the jaw, which caused instant death. He was discovered by another servant, who also shot herself demonstrating how Hague died.[9]
Sir William Payne-Gallwey, 2nd Baronet 19 December 1881 The former British MP died after sustaining severe internal injuries when he fell on a turnip while hunting.[10][11]
Roscoe Conkling 1 October 1884 During a baseball game in Suffolk County, New York, a 17-year-old boy from Cutchogue, New York named Roscoe Conkling was killed by a flying baseball bat after a player swung the bat and sent it flying, fatally striking Conkling in the head. The wild pitch also injured another person named Eugene Hallock of Mattituck, who suffered a broken jawbone after the ball hit him on the neck. Conkling became one of the earliest fans to die in a baseball game.[12]
George Taylor 27 July 1895 The tunnel watchman for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad was killed by a falling cow while working at a south tunnel near Gallatin, Tennessee. An investigation confirmed that the cow was standing on top of the tunnel when it fell off the edge, landing on the watchman, killing him instantly. The cow was also killed from the fall.[13]

20th century

1900–1959

George Savage 12 August 1903 Savage, alongside his friend Clifford J. Crocker, are employees at the Melnoth Lodge in Cookham, Berkshire, England. During an evening game, Crocker practiced swinging his steel-ended golf club before attempting to strike the ball. Savage stood right next to Crocker to watch his swing. Crocker missed the ball, and attempting to stop his swing, the club struck Savage with full force in the left eye. He fell to the ground with the steel blade of the club embedded in the forehead to the depth of three inches. He died the following morning at a nearby hospital.[14]
Thomas Henry Brown 22 June 1910 A saloon employee died from violent laughter after spotting two nickels and a dime on the floor in his saloon in Marysville, Montana, and began laughing continuously at his good fortune for minutes. He fell to his death after his last laugh.[15]
Camille Jenatzy
8 December 1913 The famous Belgian race car driver and electric car designer was shot by newspaper owner Alfred Manoux after imitating an animal call. He died from the wound on the way to the hospital.[16][17]
David Siegel 4 June 1925 The 35-year-old was fatally killed after a box containing a 23-pound radio set fell on top of him from the ninth floor of a department store between Broadway and West 32nd Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The box containing the set had slipped from a piled hand-truck being trundled, and the victim was walking around when the radio crushed him to death.[18]
William F. Sangster 14 February 1928 The 46-year-old insurance broker from Glasgow, Scotland, visited Toronto, Ontario for a business trip while residing in Vancouver, British Columbia. He stopped at The Omni King Edward Hotel to place his suitcase before leaving the hotel to watch Charlie Chaplin's The Circus at the Tivoli Theatre. During the movie with a roar of laughter, one person immediately called a doctor after witnessing Sangster passing out from his seat from laughing continuously over Chaplin's antics. Doctors declared him dead after arrival. Another person was taken to a nearby hospital for the same reason, but survived.[19]
Elbridge Rand Herron 13 October 1932 The 30-year-old American mountaineer and explorer died after slipping on a rock atop Cairo's Pyramid of Khafre and falling 300 feet (91 m). Herron had reached the top of the pyramid and was running down when he fell.[20] The son of social activist George D. Herron had recently returned from an expedition to Nanga Parbat before visiting Egypt where he met his death.[21]
Mary Anne Busch James 3 August 1935 The fifth wife of a barber named Robert James drowned in a fishpond after being attacked by a box of rattlesnakes while being tied down with ropes to a breakfast table in La Crescenta, California as part of a murder plot. One week into the investigation, the LAPD investigated a 38-year-old beach cafe night manager named C. H. Hope, who was the one taking a box of rattlesnakes that was purchased at a snake farm in Pasadena to the victim's house in La Crescenta. The man returned the snakes after noticing that his murder plot failed before noticing the wife's body shortly afterward.
Frederick Goddard 29 July 1947 A 9-year-old boy was mangled to death when he fell through a rusted steel floor of a vehicle's rumble seat before becoming entangled in the drive shaft that caused his death in Providence, Rhode Island.[22]
Vernon L. Wear 30 June 1949 A 22-year-old ministerial student was poisoned to death by a wad of facial tissues in Macon, Georgia. According to a person who went to call Wear through a telephone, he discovered his body wearing women's underclothes and a rubber bathing cap with his mouth stuffed by the tissues lying in bed.[23]
Robert Leland Anderson 29 December 1956 The 23-year-old man from North Dundas, Ontario was nearly decapitated when his vehicle's fan blades flew to pieces while starting up his cold engine in Prescott, Ontario. A friend was using the starter while Anderson opened the hood when the motor caught jagged fragments of the fan struck Anderson completely in the head, killing him instantly. Police said that the brittle cold caused the blades to shatter and snap.[24]

Clarence Hudson 18 August 1960 The 66-year-old department store manager electrocuted himself to death by his own homemade electric chair in his apartment in Wenatchee, Washington. Police estimated that 1,000 volts shot through Hudson's body, with several wet towels on his head and feet. Police also investigated a homemade transformer that was used to increase the voltage from a wall outlet which extended a wire from a 25-cent piece.[25]
Laura Brooks 16 February 1961 The 75-year-old from Newcastle, England was starved to death when her folding bed folded up and trapped her inside for three days before succumbing to her injuries.[26]
C.H. Kelly Jr. 28 August 1962 A 76-year-old widow spotted a stocking that was entangled inside an electric fan in her home in Kansas City, Missouri. While attempting to untangle the stocking, she fell back against a radiator and was electrocuted to death.[27]
Elvira Quintana
8 August 1968 The 32-year-old Spanish-Mexican actress and singer died of a non-traumatic brain hemorrhage, pancreatic problems and kidney failure as the result of silicone and guaiacol injections applied directly on her bust and legs, liquids that severely damaged her body. The negligence of this was the result of being part of the early women to perform stetic procedures in Mexico.[28][29][30]

Enrique Aguilar 31 January 1971 The 36-year-old Mexican actor died on the recording location of a TV series pilot he was going to appear, after the teenage daughter of the owner of the house they were filming in, shot him in the neck with a Colt, .38 caliber while she was showing it to him. His death was ruled accidental.[31][32][33]
James Connolly 21 January 1973 After the 21-year-old construction company employee and three of his friends left a Sanilac County, Michigan tavern following a discussion about dangerous stunts that they each had done in the past, the group drove to a nearby farm in Bridgehampton Township during the early morning hours, where Connolly attempted to display a daring feat of courage by holding a half-stick of dynamite, lighting its three-inch fuse and placing it in his mouth like a cigar. Moments later, as he was reaching towards himself to remove the small explosive, it suddenly detonated, killing him instantly. Two of his friends survived with minor injuries while the third one escaped injury.[34][35]
Rosario Castellanos
7 August 1974 The 49-year-old Mexican writer and diplomatic from Mexico City who was fulfilling her duties as ambassador of Mexico to Israel, died in Tel Aviv from electrocution caused by a lamp as she went to answer the phone after taking a bath. The strangeness of her demise has given rise to theories of suicide and even murder.[36][37][38][39]

Kiki Herrera Calles 11 November 1983 The 55-year-old Mexican entertainer head home at night crossing a railroad crossing with her car. What happened next is unknown, but the prevailing theory is that her vehicle became stuck on the tracks and, as she tried to flee when a freight train approached, one of her heels got stucked on the track too, being run over to death.[40][41][42]
Harold Penman 20 February 1989 A 32-year-old garbage truck instructor was giving a driver directions at a liquor store parking lot in Faribault, Minnesota. The driver accidentally backed up into the liquor store's 17-foot sign causing to fall. Penman got out of the truck and ran before the sign crushed him instantly to death, narrowly missing the driver and the truck.[43]
Michael Anderson Godwin 5 March 1989 The 28-year-old American murderer from Suffolk, Virginia convicted in the 1980 murder of 24-year-old Mary Elizabeth Royem in West Columbia, South Carolina, was initially given a death sentence by electrocution before being reduced to life imprisonment in 1983. While being incarcerated at the Central Correctional Institution in Columbia, South Carolina, Godwin accidentally electrocuted himself to death when he bit into wires while attempting to fix a broken television set and sitting on a metal toilet in his prison cell.[44][45]
Wim Delaere 4 July 1989 A Soviet pilot ejected from a malfunctioning Mig-23 fighter jet over Poland. The pilotless aircraft continued flying across Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium before eventually crashing into a house in the town of Bellegem, killing university student Wim Delaere.[46]

Leland Harold Cooley 29 September 1991 The 14-year-old was watching a shooting competition at the Dallas Pistol and Revolver Club inside an air gun range when a bullet from outside the shooting range missed a set of baffles and a berm by 3 inches (76 mm), bounced off a ceiling tile, and struck him in the head, killing him instantly.[47]

Jarrett Garife Jr. 2 January 2000 The 2-week-old infant riding in the backseat of a car was killed by an injured cow's hoof in a collision between both the car and the cow on California State Route 1 in Lompoc, California. Authorities say that the family from Santa Maria was driving under the speed limit but could not avoid the cow. The cow flew towards the windshield and rolled towards the top of the car. The cow's hoof destroyed the roof of the car and struck the child with it in the head. The infant was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead four hours later from internal injuries. His parents suffered minor injuries and were released a short time later.[48][49]
Anna Chambers 9 July 2000 The 11-year-old was fatally crushed by a neon refreshments sign while pouring Coca-Cola from the vending machine inside the Speedway store in Cartersville, Georgia. Her mother was also severely injured from the fall. The sign itself broke loose from the ceiling because of a flaw in construction and had been installed less than a year before the tragedy.[50]
Patrick Albert Duffey 26 April 2007 The 50-year-old father was accidentally shot to death by his wife while reenacting the Bugs Bunny cartoon Bunker Hill Bunny in their home in Whittier, California. Authorities confirmed that his wife fatally shot him after his father spoke, "What do you know, no more buwwets", as was said in the cartoon itself. Despite her "unlikely" mistake, she was sentenced to life in prison.[51]
Vincent Smith II 8 July 2009 The 29-year-old employee at Cocoa Services in Camden, New Jersey was standing on a nine-foot-high platform loading chunks of raw chocolate into a melting tank. He lost his footing and fell into the tank before being caught stuck by an agitator that caused his death.[52][53][54]

2010s

Alan Catterall 23 December 2010 The 54-year-old senior supervisor at Pyranha Mouldings factory in Runcorn, England was accidentally locked inside an industrial oven when he entered it to scrape up dripped plastic, and the oven was turned on by a colleague (Catterall's future son-in-law). With no escape hatch, and noise covering his calls for help, Catterall suffered severe burns and died from shock.[55][56]
Ilda Vitor Maciel 29 September 2012 The 88-year-old female was recovering from a stroke at the Santa Casa de Barra Mansa hospital in Rio de Janeiro. By mistake, a nursing technician accidentally injected chicken soup into an IV line in her right arm instead of her feeding tube. The soup caused her to begin squirming and shaking her tongue before suffering a stroke that left her partially paralyzed. She died 12 hours later.[57][58]
Elmer Oscar Barrera 27 April 2014 A 26-year-old male employee at the Wonton Food Company in Stafford, Texas died from multiple blunt trauma injuries after he accidentally fell inside a fortune cookie dough-mixing machine. Authorities from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science later confirmed that his death was ruled as an accident.[59][60]
Vera Hilda Williams 28 October 2014 Vera Williams, 77, swallowed a sharp piece of toast that tore into her esophagus, and had been to the hospital three times since 10 October, but was discharged. On 24 October she attended the Emergency Department, after vomiting a blood clot, which was eventually revealed to have been caused by a ruptured aorta. Williams' death, on 28 October, at Glan Clwyd Hospital, was estimated to be have been a "three in a million" chance.[61][62]
Carl Boutin 23 May 2018 The 27-year-old was headed west on Quebec Autoroute 410 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, when a "flying deer" went through his windshield, killing him and the deer instantly. The deer had been sent airborne when it was struck by the vehicle of a woman driving in the opposite lane of the highway, which sent it careening over the median barrier right onto the young man's oncoming car in what could be described as a deadly game of "deer-pong". The woman who initially struck the deer survived with minor injuries.[63][64]
Linda Goldbloom 29 August 2018 The 79-year-old died four days after being hit by a foul ball at Dodger Stadium. Her death, the second such fatality in Major League Baseball history, was the first in nearly 50 years.[65][66]
Jill Greninger 24 April 2019 The 35-year-old was killed by falling into or being pulled into a commercial meat grinder at a plant in Muncy, Pennsylvania.[67]

2020s

Aaron Henderson 4 March 2022 The 40-year-old CertiTemp employee and Winter Haven, Florida resident went to use a portable toilet while one of his colleagues drove a bulldozer to an embankment to park for the night at the North Central Landfill in nearby Auburndale. The front blade of the bulldozer was nearly four feet off the ground, partially obstructed the driver's view, and the operator accidentally ran over the portable toilet the man was using, crushing the man to death.[68][69]
Lillian Curtis and Lloyd Curtis Sr. 19 January 2023 The 72-year-old woman and her 77-year-old husband died after a Denny's sign in Columbia, Kentucky fell and partially crushed a parked car they were passengers in. The driver of the vehicle sustained chest injuries but survived.[70]
Darren Meah-Moore 22 January 2023 Darren Meah-Moore was found underneath cardboard boxes in Park Lane in downtown Cardiff. An inquest found that Meah-Moore died after having a sexual encounter involving a man and a pet dog. His death was found to inconclusive, but pathologists believe he may have suffered from a potential allergic reaction from the dog's semen.[71]
Aiden Sagala 7 March 2023 On 2 March 2023, the 21-year-old supermarket worker from Auckland, New Zealand, was gifted from his employer Baltej Singh a case of beverage cans labeled as Honey Bear House Beer, a Canadian imported beer. The cans contained liquid methamphetamine, which Sagala unwittingly drank, causing his fatal poisoning as he died after five days in a coma. Investigation into Sagala's death led to Singh's 2025 conviction for manslaughter and the uncovering of a smuggling ring forwarding 747 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at NZ$36 million, the largest in New Zealand history.[72][73]
Nguyet Le 11 May 2023 The 63-year-old Houston, Texas-based manager who was temporarily assigned to an Arby's location in New Iberia, Louisiana died from hypothermia after being locked inside a walk-in freezer that had a broken door latch reported several months earlier. According to a lawsuit, it confirms that the freezer latch had been broken since August 2022, and employees often used a screwdriver to open the door. While being trapped, Le panicked once locked inside and beat her hands bloody.[74][75]
Brandon Patty 1 June 2023 The 26-year-old man was killed at a Gastonia, North Carolina group home after being struck in the head during a dispute by a toilet lid held by a 57-year-old man who lived in the same home. He was pronounced dead on-scene. Authorities later charged the 57-year-old with first-degree murder in connection with Patty's death.[76][77]
Robert Smith 8 October 2023 The 61-year-old barber was drowned whilst receiving a baptism in a paddling pool in a garden in Erdington.[78]
Gursimran Kaur 19 October 2024 On October 19, 2024, the 19-year-old Walmart employee was found dead in Walmart's walk-in baking oven in Halifax, Nova Scotia. According to the ongoing investigation, no evidence of foul play was found.[79][80]
Takashi Shishido 2 May 2025 The 81-year-old Japanese man died after the blade of a wind turbine broke away and fell to the ground in Akita, Tōhoku, Japan. He was found unconscious with head injuries. The link between the blade and his death is under investigation.[81][82]
Denise Morey 23 June 2025 The 60-year-old women parked her car on a steep hill, exited the vehicle, and was killed when the vehicle rolled backwards and hit her in the suburb of Knocknaheeny, Cork.[83][84] The only other sources I could find were from deprecated sources like The Irish Sun and The Daily Mail, so it ain't looking good. Unknown teenager 13 July 2025 A 19-year-old worker at a food processing plant in Vernon, California, was killed after being sucked into a meat grinder he was in the process of cleaning.[85]
Antônio Romão 6 December 2025 The 72-year-old man in Piacatu, São Paulo was crossing the street when two dogs were running fast on the street. One of them ended up acidentally crashing with him, causing him to fall and hit his head, resulting in damage that resulted in tetraplegia and death 4 months later.[86]
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas 13 June 2026 A 21-year-old physical education student was thrown from the Ponte do Esqueleto bridge in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, from a height of 40 meters by two instructors from a rope jumping company, without being connected to safety ropes, as they forgot to attach them to her.[87][88][89]
Unknown man 30 June 2026 The 65-year-old man was crushed to death by his pet camel in Felton, Delaware. According to investigators, the man was tending to a private farm with his camel when the animal unexpectedly fell on him, killing the man.[90][91]
