This looks like an interesting article and feels like worth raising to be a Good Article. I will review it as part of the June 2026 Good Article backlog drive. simongraham (talk) 05:29, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Comments

  • First, some general comments.
  • Overall, the standard of the article is good.
  • It is of reasonable size with 1,282 words of readable prose, of which 395 is in quotes and so not reported by the wikipedia tools.
  • The lead is very short at 39 words.
  • Authorship is 56.7% from the nominator with contributions from 25 other editors.
  • GPTZero confirms that the writing is very likely to be human (99%).
  • It is currently assessed as a C class article.
  • There are some duplicate links, including Beirut, Damascus and Hama in the sentences starting "Between 1906 and 1910 she worked as a correspondent for newspapers in Syria and Lebanon" and "Women's literary salons and societies in the Arab world". I suggest the cases of the latter could also fall foul of WP:EASTEREGG.
  • The article consists of a large number of small paragraphs. Consider combining them to ease the reader's ability to read if they are using a larger screen.
  • Although not a GA criteria, suggest adding ALT text to the images for accessibility.

Criteria

The six good article criteria:

  1. It is reasonable well written.
    the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct;
    • The writing is clear and appropriate.
    • Suggest adding a comma after "began her own periodical".
    • Suggest using "that" rather than "who" in "who had full control".
    • Add a comma after "Damascus Women's Literary Club" and after "King Faysal I".
    • Remove the comma before "and compared her to Ziadeh".
    • Please check the grammar in the quote "To those who believe that in the spirit of women in the strength to kill the germs of corruption, and that in her hand is the weapon to rend the gloom of opposition, and in her mouth the solace to lighten human misery".
    • I can see no other obvious spelling or grammar errors.
    it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead, layout and word choice.
    • The lead section needs expanding so that it is "an introduction to an article and a summary of its most important content".
    • Suggest checking that the referenced information in the lead is added to the body and referenced there. "Since the lead summarizes the body, citations supporting claims in the lead can usually be found in the body."
    • Add context to the blockquote that begins "Who has decided that we are a people that do not deserve to self-determination?"
    • The section titled Tributes is a combination of quotes. Mindful of MOS:QUOTE, suggest rewriting in encyclopedic language as a series of sentences, adding the context for the quote and other relevant information.
    • It otherwise seems to comply with the Manuals of Style.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    it contains a reference section, presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
    • A reference section is included, with sources listed.
    • Please add the location of the publisher to Moubayed 2006.
    • SFUTUREM 2024 seems to be a deadlink.
    • There are two different ISBN formats. Suggest choosing either ISBN-10 tor ISBN-13.
    all inline citations are from reliable sources;
    • Sources are mainly books and web articles.
    • The books are published by reputable publishers.
    • Please show evidence that the webpages are reputable, confirming the the work itself, the creator of the work, the website and the publisher following WP:SOURCE.
    • Add the page numbers for Moubayed 2006. If there are multiple pages, consider using a different format. If you would like to see an example of an alternative style that combines books and webpages from a GA that I was involved in, please take a look at Katia Bellillo.
    • References 2, 7 and 8 seem to refer to the same source on the site Nasawiyyah Arab Media History.
    • References 2 and 5 seem to the be the same source from the Syrian Future Movement.
    it contains no original research;
    • Not all relevant statements have inline citations. If this is because the reference is attached to a sentence in a following paragraph, make them a single paragraph. Otherwise, please add a reference.
    • Spot checks confirm 4b, 4d, 9 and 15 reference their statements. However, there are significant issues with close phrasing.
    it contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism;
    • Earwig gives a 82.9% chance of copyright violation.
    • There is close phrasing with the articles in Nasawiyyah Arab Media History and Al Majalla as well as Zeidan 1995, which were identified during spot checks. Rewrite and confirm that there is no violation with the other sources.
  3. It is broad in its coverage
    it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
    • The article is compliant.
    it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
    • Consider other sources that mention Ajami, such as Marilyn Booth's May Her Likes Be Multiplied, History, Women and Gender in the Modern Middle East by Lisa Pollard and Mona L. Russell, The First World War as Remembered in the Countries of the Eastern Mediterranean by Manfred Kropp, Olaf Farschid and Stephan Dähne and Portraits of Palestinian Women by Orayb Aref Najjar and Kitty Warnock. All of these are available through Google Books or the Wikipedia Library.
  4. It has a neutral point of view.
    it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to different points of view.
    • The article seems generally balanced.
  5. It is stable.
    it does not change significantly from day to day because of any ongoing edit war or content dispute.
    • There is no evidence of edit wars.
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
    images are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content;
    • 1307109799 king-faisal-i-of-iraq-kopiya colored.jpg lacks a US PD tag.
    • Otherwise, the images have appropriate CC or PD tags.
    images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
    *Note that the image May 6, 1916 Public executions of Syrian nationalists in Marjeh Square.jpg has a comment that it is of five executions that happened in Jerusalem in June 1916 rather than in May. Please review it.
    • Otherwise, the images are appropriate and add context to the article.
