Zimmerman, a 28-year-old multiracial man who is White Hispanic,[Note 1] was a neighborhood watch coordinator for the gated community where Martin was visiting his father at the time of the shooting.[4][5][6] Zimmerman became suspicious of Martin and called police where the 911 dispatcher told Zimmerman to remain in his vehicle and to not follow Martin. Zimmerman ignored the dispatcher and proceeded to follow Martin where an altercation occurred. Martin can be heard screaming for help on the 911 call followed by gun shots. Martin was unarmed and shot with a pistol registered to Zimmerman.[cnn][911 call]

Not done: Hey! The CNN article doesn't state any sources and the Youtube video is deleted! Valorrr (talk) 04:10, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

Racial bias and lack of factuality

Article uses dehumanising language toward the black teenager, and suffers from racist agenda pushing.

The text features such interesting wording choices as referring to the shooter as a “multiracial Hispanic *man” while calling the murdered black teen an “african american *male” (making sure to also note that he was suspended from school, in the very introduction).

The text additionally simply framed Zimmerman’s contradictory claims as fact; that the teen attacked him and that he did nothing wrong.

I hope this is just temporary vamdalism but i have a feeling it isnt.

He was an adult when he died. ~2025-34656-77 (talk) 01:33, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
Really? The lead of the article says he was "a 17-year-old African-American boy". HiLo48 (talk) 01:49, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
He was 17 years old when he died. In the U.S., 17 year olds are legal minors who are typically still in high school. ~2026-12200-0 (talk) 04:09, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

In background info, Trayvon's name is depicted as Tracy. It is at the end of the paragraph explaining where he was staying. It is in one of the first paragraphs of the background information section ~2026-10025-67 (talk) 09:06, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

Partly done: I fixed this according to the cited source, which says it was his father's fiancée. Umby 🌕🐶 (talk) 10:36, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
