Steam Machine (computer)Steam Machine (2026 computer)Steam Machine (2026 computer) – Just slightly more specific without implying that it's a "2nd generation" (which may cause confusion by implying the existence of a "1st generation" that's one single device, which is obviously not the case). Zenphia1 (talk) 22:59, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

@Zenphia1 I fully agree. The current name is far too imprecise for it to continue in this way, especially considering the flood of information the page will recieve. Changing the name will simply get it done now, rather than when more information needs to be written, revealing the subparity of the current title. Glacial-minimus (talk) 03:21, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
We need to differentiate from the original Steam Machine concept, but "computer" is not a good way, because the original Steam Machines were also computers. This should be "first generation"/"second generation" , or even "iteration", for proper distinguishing. Masem (t) 04:13, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
@Masem Fair point. I have nothing else to say. Glacial-minimus (talk) 04:14, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
What about "Steam Machine (2026)" then? Zenphia1 (talk) 07:06, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
@Zenphia1 Certainly. All we need to do is specify which Steam Machine we're talking about; Steam Machine (2026) gets that done. Glacial-minimus (talk) 14:16, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
Support (2026) clarifies the subject; oppose (computer) PC-based appliance, does not disambiguate from Steam Machines (2015), WP:DIFFCAPS already does from other topics; oppose (___ generation) there was no prior generation of Steam Machine as a commercial product, there existed "Steam Machines" as a marketing term. There were devices that included the term in name (see in 2015 and in 2018):
  • Alienware Steam Machine
  • Maingear DRIFT
  • Materiel.net Steam Machine
  • Scan 3XS ST Steam Machine
  • Syber Steam Machine
  • ZOTAC NEN Steam Machine
There existed an "official" Steam Machine from Valve, but it was just a prototype, with only 300 units (per iFixIt). Tracerneo (talk) 10:23, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

Why are we just randomly changing the naming scheme? It's confusing and serves no purpose--Trade (talk) 20:17, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

Corrected, Tracerneo (talk) 16:50, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
someone is making page moves while this is open, thats not helping. Masem (t) 20:50, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
Looks like the current page name is the one made without community consensus though
Can't take offense when others decides to move it Trade (talk) 21:25, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
This move request was open when the moves were made. That's disruptive even if good intentioned. Masem (t) 01:18, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
That's invented naming, see talk pages for these two Steam Controller articles. The first product is officially named "Steam Controller (2015)". Tracerneo (talk) 09:25, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
A store listing is not official. That looks like the same reason we have disambiguation, to distinguish between two products of the same name. We have standardized approaches for this, and in terms of hardware, we usually use generation terms. Masem (t) 11:27, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Can we move away from the awful (computer) in the name now Trade (talk) 11:35, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
I'm tempted for the purpose of current problems to go to 1st gen/2nd gen to clear it up, as yes, right now, something needs to be done more immediately because of previous rushed moves. If we end up on other terms, that's fine, but those are pretty standard for disamb between different products from same company. Masem (t) 11:41, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
"different products from same company" – and here's a problem, as Valve/Steam has not released a product named "Steam Machine" prior to this device from 2026. Are you thinking of Alienware Steam Machine by Alienware (Dell)? Tracerneo (talk) 11:54, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
valve released the framework for the Steam Machine before, and most sources recognize it as Valve's concept, even though they did not release any product but instead let others manufacture devices to minimum specs they could call Steam Machines. That's the 1st generation. The second generation is this new system that only Valve is producing. Masem (t) 13:02, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
So if Valve isn't an authority for official names then who is? Trade (talk) 14:47, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
And now that Steam Controller (1st generation) have been moved to Steam Controller (2015) the naming scheme is now completely incoherent. Please move it back Trade (talk) 14:50, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
It's supposed to be accurate, not whatever you think is "coherent". If you need examples, iPad Mini is a series of devices with varying naming, some with "generation", some with number, and latest being iPad Mini (A17 Pro). Tracerneo (talk) 15:46, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Now it's consistent and based on sources. Please see Talk:Steam Controller (2026) If you feel that a different naming scheme is more appropriate, open a request on respective page. Tracerneo (talk) 16:50, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose It's the current primary topic, so it should be moved to Steam Machine. Steam Machine should be moved to Steam Machine (2015) or similar. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:50, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
its not even released and we have no idea how successful it might be. No way the 2026 device meets PRIMARY at this point. And while it likely won't be, if it ends up DOA, thats a further reason it won't meet PRIMARY. Masem (t) 19:22, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
It's primary alone in the fact, that it's a current product, as opposed to the other family of devices (sold under different branding), which has not been sold since 2018. It also already shipped to select individuals with early access.
You do not seem to discuss in good faith, basing your decision on its hypothetical success (or lack of thereof). Even if it's complete failure, it's what's currently discussed by all the media outlets covering the titled subject.
While I do not necessarily agree on it receiving primary naming (due to DIFFCAP accessibility issues), I wholeheartedly disagree with your reasoning and argument. Tracerneo (talk) 19:39, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
I will concur about the 2015 with the small difference, that it should be named "Steam Machines" with an s, as is the official marketing name of the 2015 product line. Tracerneo (talk) 19:32, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
