Edit request 6 January 2026
Description of suggested change: Removes the requirement for the first_round field to have primary election type, standardising it with the final_round field. Also adds 'by-election' as an allowed type for the swing field along with parliamentary and legislative.

Add an option for "Registered" towards the top of the infobox to be displayed as "Enrolled", since in Australia, voter registration is called enrolment. Milkk7 (talk) 01:32, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Proposed change
I've often thought it is a bit illogical that for parliamentary elections, Prime Minister before and after the election is at the bottom, but outgoing and elected members are at the top. It would make more sense (to me) for the outgoing / incoming members to be in the same part of the template as the outgoing / incoming PM. I've made the change in the sandbox and you can see the effect here. Thoughts welcome. Cheers, Number 57 22:14, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
- I do not think it is illogical. All parliamentary elections, by definition, see the election of a given number of members. Not all parliamentary elections lead to the election of a prime minister (or regional premier, or any given head of state/government). Some parliamentary elections may not see the (subsequent and indirect) election of a particular office at all (maybe the parliament speaker...). I think prioritizing the former over the latter (as the current version of the template does) is more logical. Impru20talk 22:57, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
Placeholder images
As per WP:IPH, I agree since I personally dislike placeholder images, but I hate blank cells that screws up the aesthetics. I'd also not be in favor of adding party logos/symbols/ripoffs/anything else. Do we have just an image file that's 80x100 px, just a white/transparent box with absolutely nothing on it, then, add it to this template as a default if there's no image available? "incumbent" in ongoing elections with vacant office
Motivating case: 2026 Greater Manchester mayoral by-election.
When ongoing=yes the template displays "incumbent" next to the title, however in the case of a by-election the office is generally vacant (for example, the officeholder has resigned or, in this case, has been disqualified) then this is a misleading statement. There should be an option to force the use of "before election" or "previous".
Skimming back over the archives, I can see that this issue was raised on the talk page all the way back in 2009 and no doubt it has appeared many times since then, but due to the nature of elections it eventually "resolves" itself by the election taking place. M2Ys4U (talk) 00:29, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
