Films
I think film plot summaries should cover key themes and character arcs, not just details. My rule of thumb is that if a fact is implied, it goes in the synopsis, like Diary of a Country Priest; a minimalist like Robert Bresson is nearly incomprehensible unless you affirmatively make certain connections. If it's subtext or allusive, it goes in the analysis/themes section, like Pickpocket or Megalopolis. Obviously, this is a grey area and reasonable people can disagree. I find that using efn footnotes helps bridge the gap.
