The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 00:55, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Category containing only a single article, William Sumter Murphy which states that he was appointed as "Special and Confidential Agent of the United States to Central America" and that the Federal Republic of Central America "had mostly dissolved by the time Murphy arrived in December, he presented his credentials to Guatemala". Not helpful for navigation and seems inaccurate. AusLondonder (talk) 22:22, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete since the one subject is already in another sub-cat of Category:Ambassadors of the United States. There is a question I am not sure we have decided the answer to. Should people who were only acting Ambassadors fall in Ambassadors of diplomat categories. I think we should place such people in the mote broad diplomats categories. We can include formally appointed heads of diplomaticmissions be they called minister, envoy etc. Since we are also translating titles from other languages. However I do not think we should include people who merely acted as the top representative of the country without having had the formal appointment of their government but the normal means that it happened.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:32, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Category containing only a single article and a subcategory which is already part of an appropriate category tree. AusLondonder (talk) 22:15, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: rename (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 00:57, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Another option is "Renaming referendums". The current title doesn't fully explain what this is for. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:30, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's rationale: Dual upmerge for now. Underpopulated category SMasonGarrison 19:33, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Dual merge, only two articles, this is not helpful for navigation. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:36, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge especially since the last rung rule means we should not create hyper narrow categories by ethnicity.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:24, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

  • Merge We do not need this category just to hold the Jazz drummers cat.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:24, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 00:56, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Single-article category. The article is already categorised within this category's parents in the category for the dynasty the house is part of. Mclay1 (talk) 10:29, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete, this is not helpful for navigation. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:29, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

More single-member non-resident ambassador categories

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 00:56, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Many of these categories have been created to contain a single article. All of the San Marino categories, for example, are for one person. This is over-categorisation. AusLondonder (talk) 08:28, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete, we do not categorize as non-resident ambassadors. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:30, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete we do not normally define people by every job assignment. Resident ambassador assignments cross the threshold into definingness that we can justify it, at least if Ambassadors of Foo Country is a large enough Category we can justify splitting it. Non-resident ambassadors do not.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:50, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

Category:British expatriates in Equatorial Guinea

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 02:22, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: Equatorial Guinea did not exist as a sovereign country until the late 1960s yet the sole article relates to a missionary who spent time in the area in the 1840s. Inaccurate and unhelpful for navigation. AusLondonder (talk) 07:53, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:32, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Single merge since a double merge would not make sense here. In any case 1 article expatriates of Foo in boo categories are not justified. They are too narrow and make navigation between articles more difficult.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:52, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

Single-member non-resident ambassador categories

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). GoldRomean (talk) 00:56, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Nominator's rationale: All of these categories have been created for a single article, Rachad Ahmed Saleh Farah, an ambassador of Djibouti. He only served as resident ambassador in two countries. This is massive over-categorisation for a single article. AusLondonder (talk) 07:10, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete, we do not categorize as non-resident ambassadors. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:33, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete non-resident ambassadorships do not pass the high threshold for categorizing people by specific assignment or duty. If these were single member resident ambassador categories we would want to upmerge to Ambassadors of Foo and maybe Ambassadors in Boo. The most defining thing about an ambassador is the country that appointed him or her. The country, organization or subject mater (there are Ambassadors at large) he or she is assigned to work with are is some but not all cases defining.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:56, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
