RefToolbar screenshot is out of date

I don't know the right way to update that screenshot, so I'm just leaving a note here for somebody who does. Dreamyshade (talk) 23:46, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

Hmm, @Dreamyshade, the screenshot looks basically the same as RefToolbar currently displays for me. Could you specify how it has gone out of date? Sdkbtalk 03:23, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
@Sdkb Thanks, that helped me figure out where I got confused: when I'm editing in source mode, I see the same toolbar that I do in Visual Editor mode, because I have the option enabled in my preferences for "Use the VisualEditor toolbar—which includes the automatic citation tool—in the Source editor too". I don't know if that's a default setting. Might be worth adding a tip about this setting to both this page and Wikipedia:RefToolbar? Dreamyshade (talk) 04:16, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Glad that helped! I don't think that setting is the default, and as such, I'd recommend against adding a note about it here in order to try to keep this page simple as it won't be relevant for most beginners. It could definitely be worth noting on more detailed pages in our help documentation, though. It looks like there is some additional info at mw:2017 wikitext editor.
