Etymology

The genus name Agyrtacantha combines the Greek ἀγύρτης (agyrtēs, "imposter" or "charlatan"), referring to confusion surrounding its earlier classification, with ἄκανθα (akantha, "thorn" or "spine"), referring to the spines at the tip of the female abdomen.[1][5]
