2026 Kwara North insecurity protest was a protest held on 26 February 2026 at the Kwara State Government House in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The demonstration was organized by youths and residents from parts of Kwara North in response to insecurity, including reported kidnappings and killings in several local government areas of the region.

Background

Prior to the protest, communities in parts of Kwara North, including Edu, Patigi and Kaiama Local Government Areas, reported incidents of kidnapping, banditry and violent attacks. Concerns over security prompted calls for increased government intervention and protection of affected communities.

Protest

On 26 February 2026, protesters gathered at the Kwara State Government House in Ilorin to demand stronger action against insecurity in Kwara North.[1]

Participants called on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts against kidnappings and killings in affected communities.[2]

Some demonstrators also opposed proposals concerning the use of the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Kwara State as a facility for internally displaced persons.[3]
