History

Avenues: The World School, an international system of private schools co-founded by Benno C. Schmidt Jr., Chris Whittle, and Alan Greenberg, opened its first campus in Chelsea, New York City, in September 2012 with 738 students.[3][4] In 2019, Avenues launched a virtual campus called Avenues Online.[1] Avenues later opened a physical campus in San Jose, California, branded as Avenues Silicon Valley, in the fall of 2022.[5][6]

In August 2024, the school announced its rebranding from Avenues Online to AEON School, reflecting its status as an entity independent of Avenues: The World School. According to the USA Fencing announcement, the name “AEON” is derived from the Greek word for “forever.”[1]

In 2025, Sora Schools acquired AEON School.[7] Following the acquisition, AEON’s partnership with USA Fencing concluded and was replaced by an agreement with Dwight Global Online School.[7]

Academics

AEON School offers an online curriculum for students in grades 5 through 12. The school is accredited by NEASC and offers NCAA-approved courses.[1] According to Niche, the school enrolls approximately 208 students with a student-teacher ratio of 7:1, and with 40% of students receiving financial aid, and it holds an A+ overall rating, ranking among the top twenty private online high schools in the United States.[2] The school operates on a 12-month academic calendar.[8]

Athletics Partnerships

AEON School established partnerships with several United States national sports governing bodies as their designated “official school.”

In August 2023, Avenues Online was announced as the Official School of USA Fencing, a partnership that continued after the rebrand to AEON School.[1] The partnership concluded in 2025 following AEON’s acquisition by Sora Schools.[7]

In November 2024, US Sailing announced AEON School as its Official School, a partnership that included scholarship programs for young sailors.[8][9]

In January 2025, US Squash announced AEON School as its Official School Partner[10], and inaugural scholarships were awarded to two young squash players for the 2025-2026 academic year.[11]

In December 2025, College Golf Experience (CGX) named AEON School as its exclusive school partner for its Academic Camp Series.[12]
