Ana Schurmann (born in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, model, and researcher of German descent.[1] She gained international recognition after her song Tell Me was added to the BBC playlist in the United Kingdom.[2]
Sound research and experimentation
In addition to her artistic career, Ana Schurmann conducts research into nature sounds applied to music. In collaboration with Professor Roger Hale of the University of Salt Lake City, she studies ways of transforming natural elements — such as shell recordings, environmental noises, and spectrograms — into musical language. This work resulted in the project Sonus Naturae 0, in which she converts scientific data into experimental compositions.[3]
In 2025, Schurmann expanded her interdisciplinary research by integrating real gravitational wave observation data into a musical series titled Sinfonia do Universo (Symphony of the Universe). The project used advanced sonification techniques to convert raw signals detected by international interferometers — including LIGO and Virgo — into audible frequencies and orchestral scores. The research was developed in collaboration with scientists from the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), and was featured in national press coverage for its approach to uniting astrophysics and classical music as a form of science communication.[4]
Career
In 2021, Schurmann composed the soundtrack for the Max Mara show at Milan Fashion Week, at the invitation of creative director Ian Griffiths.[5]
In 2023, she was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Brazil list, recognized as one of the most influential young people in the country.[6]
