Development
On July 25, 2023, following the premiere of Barbie (2023), director Greta Gerwig stated she had no plans for a sequel.[2] On August 4, 2023, it was reported that Gerwig, co-writer Noah Baumbach and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling had been contracted for only one film.[3] On December 13, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that a sequel film to Barbie had entered early development from Warner Bros. and Mattel, with Gerwig and Baumbach set to return. Representatives for Warner Bros., Gerwig, and Baumbach denied the claim.[4]
