William "Bill" Dorfman (born September 16, 1958) is an American cosmetic dentist, entrepreneur, author, and television personality.[1][2] He co-founded Discus Dental, a dental products company that developed the Zoom! teeth whitening system.[3][4] Dorfman was the featured cosmetic dentist on the ABC reality television series Extreme Makeover.[1]

Early life and education

Dorfman graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1980 and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 1983.[5][6]

Career

After completing his dental education, Dorfman established a private cosmetic dentistry practice in Los Angeles.[1][2] He later co-founded Discus Dental, a dental products company that developed the Zoom! teeth-whitening system, which became widely used in professional dental practices.[3][4]

Dorfman was the featured cosmetic dentist on the ABC reality television series Extreme Makeover, where he provided cosmetic dental treatment for participants undergoing appearance transformations.[1][2]

Philanthropy

Dorfman is a co-founder of the LEAP Foundation, a nonprofit organisation that provides leadership and educational programs for high school and college students.[7] He has also supported the Smiles for Life Foundation, a charitable initiative of the Crown Council that raises funds for children’s charities through an annual teeth-whitening campaign.[8]

Dorfman is the author of books on cosmetic dentistry, including ''The Smile Guide'' (1990)[9] and ''Billion Dollar Smile: A Complete Guide to Your Extreme Smile Makeover'' (2006).[10]

Awards and recognition

Dorfman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD).[11] He has been inducted into the Dental Hall of Fame.[12] He was included in Incisal Edge magazine’s list of the 32 Most Influential People in Dentistry in 2024.[13]
