Draft:Cavite School Stabbing Incidents

Incident 1, Bethel Academy, General Trias, Cavite (June 16, 2026)

A 14-year-old Grade 8 student entered a Grade 5 classroom and attacked several pupils with a kitchen knife.^[1] Seven Grade 5 students were injured. Two of them were later transferred to a larger medical facility for surgery due to the severity of their injuries.^[2] Initial reports indicated that teachers were attending a meeting at the time, leaving the classroom temporarily unattended.^[3] The PNP noted the suspect may have been suffering from depression, though this was not confirmed. Authorities dismissed bullying as a motive.^[4] Bethel Academy later moved to online classes from June 22 to 26 to implement additional security measures.^[5]

Incident 2, Cavite National High School (June 19, 2026)

A senior high school student repeatedly stabbed an 18-year-old student after a heated argument escalated into a fistfight. The suspect allegedly pulled out a knife hidden in his shoe and stabbed the other student, who sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. The 18-year-old suspect was arrested and taken into police custody.^[6] The school principal noted that a prior encounter had already occurred outside school grounds, and both parties intentionally brought the conflict onto school property.^[7]

Aftermath

The DepEd and PNP both expressed concern over the two incidents happening within the first week of classes. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. instructed local police to conduct thorough investigations and increase patrols around school areas.^[8] The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines called for stronger safety measures in schools and more staffing.^[9]
