Dala Nasser (born 1990) is a Lebanese interdisciplinary artist based between Beirut and London. Her exhibitions have been reviewed in publications including Frieze, Artforum, Hyperallergic, and The Brooklyn Rail.[1][2][3][4] These reviews discuss her unconventional use of materials and references to landscape.[5]
Early life and education
Nasser was born in Tyre, Lebanon, in 1990. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale School of Art in 2021.[6]
Work and practice
Nasser works across painting and installation, often using materials such as soil, ash, and plant-based pigments applied to textiles and stretcher bars to create large format installations.[4] Her works are produced through site-specific processes in which materials are gathered from particular geographical and historical locations.[3]
Writing in Frieze, curator Chrissie Iles stated that Nasser’s materials function as “witness[es] to historical and political conditions”.[7] In Texte zur Kunst, Taylor Stanton discussed her work in relation to colonial histories and material processes.[5]
Exhibitions
Notable solo shows include Adonis River (2023) at the Renaissance Society in Chicago[2] and Cemetery of Martyrs (2026) at Nottingham Contemporary[8] in the United Kingdom.
She has also participated in large scale group shows such as the 2022 Carnegie International[9], the 2024 Whitney Biennial[10], and the 2025 Aichi Triennale.[11]
Awards and recognition
Nasser has received recognition including the Isola Sicilia Award.[12]
She was included in a 2025 Artnet News list of artists to watch and in an Artsy editorial feature on the Aichi Triennale.[13][11]
