Dan iead is an American musician known for his work as a pedal steel guitarist and guitarist. He has recorded, performed, and toured with artists including Norah Jones, Cass McCombs, Valerie June, and Elle King. In addition to his performance work, iead has composed and contributed music for television, film, and commercial projects.

Dan iead was a founding member of The Broken West, a California-based rock band formed in 2004 that later signed with Merge Records.[1]

Since the early 2010's, iead has been a touring and recording member of Cass McCombs' band, playing both electric and pedal steel guitar. He appeared on numerous live dates, including extensive North American tours following the release of Big Wheel and Others (2013)[2] and contributed to McCombs' albums Big Wheel and Others (2013), Mangy Love (2016), Tip of the Sphere (2019) and the most recent album Interior Live Oak (2025).[3] In 2014, he performed with Cass McCombs and The War on Drugs for a series of shows, followed by a two-month co-headlining U.S. tour with the Meat Puppets.[4]

Iead has also worked extensively with Norah Jones, performing as a member of her touring band. He joined her for the Day Breaks World Tour (2017), including concerts in Japan at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan. Iead reunited with Jones for her Summer U.S. Tour (2022) and her European Tour (2023).[5] RIFF Magazine noted his performance at the Oxbow RiverStage in Napa, CA.[6] His performances included appearances at venues and festivals such as La Seine Musicale with Mavis Staples (Paris, France), the Gent Jazz Festival (Ghent, Belgium), the Montreux Jazz Festival (Montreux, Switzerland), and the Monte-Carlo Summer Festival (Monaco).[7] Iead has contributed to several of Norah Jones' recordings, including Day Breaks (2016), the Grammy nominated 2019 single with Mavis Staples, I’ll Be Gone, Pick Me Up Off the Floor (2020), and …Little Broken Hearts: Live at Allaire Studio (2023).[8][9]

Dan iead collaborated with singer, Valerie June on her 2021 album The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions for Dreamers. He later appeared on her 2023 cover of Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” and joined her in 2023 for a live performance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.[10] In 2024, he toured with Elle King, on her Baby Daddy’s Weekend Tour and performed as part of her band when she opened for Cyndi Lauper at Madison Square Garden. Iead founded and curated Adult Party, a recurring music night at Union Pool in Brooklyn, NY that featured rotating guest musicians including Norah Jones, Cass McCombs, Valerie June, Robyn Hitchcock, Joe Russo, The Chapin Sisters, Matt Sweeney, Cassandra Jenkins, Doug Shaw, Mike Bones, Sam Evian, Steve Gunn, and others.[12]

Dan iead has appeared on several television programs, including Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Today Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Austin City Limits. In 2019, iead recorded pedal steel guitar for the theme song of NPR’s Morning Edition, produced by Man Made Music[13]

Most recently, iead contributed pedal steel to Irish singer CMAT’s latest album, Euro-Country (2025).[14]
