History
Early productions (2016 - 2020)
Initially established as a 2D animation studio, DeeDee focused on producing commercial animation while developing original intellectual properties. During its early years, the studio produced animated shorts, television series, and educational films for commercial clients and organizations including UNICEF [3] and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Alongside its commissioned work, DeeDee began developing original productions rooted in Vietnamese culture, literature, and history. Broken Being: Prequel (Vietnamese: Tàn thể: Tiền truyện) [4] conceived as the first installment of an original fictional universe [5], received selections at several international film festivals and won the Best Animated Short award at the Bloodstained Indie Film Festival [6]. The production also earned the studio the Best Animator award at Vietnam's Golden Kite Awards in 2019.
International productions (2021 - present)
Beginning in the early 2020s, DeeDee expanded its activities into international animation production through collaborations with studios and media companies in North America, Europe, and Japan. The studio worked with Japanese animation company Shin-Ei Animation on the television anime Chimimo and later Okaimono Panda!. In the United States, DeeDee collaborated with Los Angeles-based Duncan Studio on several Disney projects, including Disney's Mickey & Friends x CAMP: An Extra Big Adventure! and the Mickey and Friends: Seoul Tour campaign, before continuing the partnership on the MarvelHQ web series Meet the Fantastic Four and Holiday Heroes.
The studio also established an ongoing collaboration with the American animation company 6 Point Harness. Through the partnership, DeeDee contributed animation production to the Netflix documentary series How to Become a Cult Leader [7] and How to Become a Mob Boss, as well as Adult Swim's animated comedy series Oh My God, Yes!.
In Europe, DeeDee participated in the production of the animated feature film A Magnificent Life (French: Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol), directed by Sylvain Chomet and produced by the French media group Mediawan. The film premiered in the Special Screenings section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival [8]. In 2026, the studio continued working with Mediawan through its subsidiary Miraculous Corp, contributing animation production to Watt a Dream Date!, a promotional short created in collaboration with BYD [9].
Creative leadership and original productions (2025 -present)
Beyond providing production services, DeeDee gradually expanded its role to include animation direction and creative supervision for international productions [10] [11]. In 2026, the studio served as animation director for Sunny Side Down, a science-fiction comedy series produced by MAKE [12].
The studio has continued to develop original intellectual properties alongside its international production work. In 2025, Jelly's Bean, an educational animated series for children, won first prize in the Short & Series category at the Vietnam Animation IP Contest [13], organized by the Vietnam Animation and Visual Effects Association. The same year, the hand-drawn short film Home Again (Vietnamese: Trở Về) received the Silver Lotus Award, Best Director, and Best Animator at the 24th Vietnam Film Festival, followed by the Silver Kite Award from the Vietnam Cinema Association. In 2026, the film received its international premiere after being selected for the Animated Thrills and Chills programme at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival [14].
