DisplayNote Technologies Ltd is a British software company headquartered in Belfast, Northern Ireland, that develops wireless collaboration and presentation software for meeting rooms and educational environments. Founded in 2012, the company's products include Launcher, a meeting room management application; Montage, a wireless presentation platform; and Omni, a wireless conferencing system. DisplayNote's software is used in more than 200,000 classrooms and meeting spaces worldwide.[1] In July 2023, the company was acquired by Volaris Group, an operating group of Constellation Software Inc.[2]

History

Founding

DisplayNote Technologies was founded in Belfast in 2012 by Paul Brown, Andrew Bell, and Robert Elliott.[3] The company was established during the early bring your own device (BYOD) era in education, with the original aim of enabling teachers to share content from mobile devices to a classroom display while moving freely around the room.[4] Its first product was a classroom wireless presentation tool that would later evolve into the Montage product line.

In its early years, DisplayNote developed hardware accessories alongside its software, as many projectors and displays at the time lacked the computing capability to run embedded software. As interactive displays with integrated operating systems became widespread in the mid-2010s, the company shifted to a software-only model.[4] DisplayNote operates a second office in Murcia, Spain, which serves as an engineering centre alongside its Belfast headquarters.[4]

Expansion into corporate meeting rooms

DisplayNote expanded its focus from classrooms into corporate meeting rooms with the development of Launcher, a meeting room management application. A minimum viable product version of Launcher was first demonstrated at InfoComm 2019.[4] The product provides one-touch access to video conferencing platforms including Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, and Cisco Webex, and is designed to be centrally managed by IT administrators across large deployments of shared spaces.

Funding

In 2018, DisplayNote raised £1.1 million from Kernel Capital through the Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Growth Fund (Northern Ireland) to support product development and key hires.[5] The company's total funding prior to acquisition was approximately $5.39 million.[3]

Acquisition by Volaris Group

On 3 July 2023, Volaris Group announced the acquisition of DisplayNote Technologies. Volaris Group is an operating group of Constellation Software Inc., a Canadian software conglomerate listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.[2] Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Kernel Capital described the sale as resulting in "a strong all-cash multiple return" to its fund investors.[6]

Rob Turner, Group Leader at Volaris Group, stated the acquisition was "driven by their customer-first approach and culture of innovation, underpinned by industry-leading technology."[2] Following the acquisition, DisplayNote continued to operate as an independent entity within the Volaris portfolio.

Leadership transition (2025)

In January 2025, Ed Morgan became chief executive officer of DisplayNote Technologies, succeeding co-founder Paul Brown, who had led the company since its founding.[7] Morgan, who had been with the company for more than 14 years in roles spanning product, operations, and sales, stated the company intended to strengthen its focus on delivering value to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners.[7]

Products

Launcher

Launcher is a meeting room management application that provides a locked-down, single-purpose interface on shared room PCs and interactive displays. It gives users one-touch access to video conferencing applications, a room calendar, and IT-approved apps, while restricting ad-hoc changes to device settings. IT administrators can configure and manage Launcher deployments remotely, push software updates, and automate data clearing between meetings.[8] The product targets corporate meeting rooms and higher education environments where device consistency and security are required across large numbers of shared spaces.

Montage

Montage is a wireless presentation platform that allows participants to share screens from any device — including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Chromebook — to a shared display without cables or dedicated hardware dongles. It supports multiple simultaneous screen shares and is designed for both meeting rooms and classrooms.[8]

Omni

Omni is a wireless conferencing system that enables users to join conference calls from their laptops using room peripherals — including displays, cameras, and microphones — without physical cable connections. Omni was publicly launched at InfoComm 2023 in Orlando, where it received a Best of Show award from AV Technology, Digital Signage, and Tech&Learning publications.[9]

Screen Sharing SDK

DisplayNote develops an SDK for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and hardware partners, enabling wireless screen sharing to be built directly into interactive displays, video bars, and other meeting room devices.[1] The company reports more than 16.5 million screen sharing sessions annually across its deployed base.

Partnerships

DisplayNote's software is embedded into products from a range of interactive display manufacturers, including Newline, SMART Technologies, Dell, Ricoh, Clevertouch, and Avocor.[4]

In June 2025, DisplayNote announced a partnership with LG Electronics under which Launcher, Omni, and Montage would be pre-installed on LG's Windows-based interactive displays and OPS computing modules sold to enterprise customers in the United States.[10][8]

Recognition

  • InfoComm 2023 Best of Show — Omni was named a Best of Show winner at InfoComm 2023 in Orlando by AV Technology, Digital Signage, and Tech&Learning publications. Judges were CTS-certified technology managers, engineers, integrators, and consultants.[9]
  • Belfast Telegraph IT Awards 2024 — DisplayNote Technologies was shortlisted in three categories at the 2024 Belfast Telegraph IT Awards, including IT Supplier of the Year and Best Place to Work in IT (Under 100 employees).[11]
