Dove Science Academy High School is a tuition-free public charter high school located in the Oklahoma City suburb of Warr Acres. It is part of the Dove Schools charter district and serves students in grades 8–12. The campus focuses on a college-preparatory, STEM-oriented curriculum and operates an accelerated program in which students complete the required high-school credits in the 11th grade and have the ability to focus on concurrent/college-level coursework in the 12th grade.[3][4]

History

Dove Science Academy High School opened as part of the Dove Schools expansion from its original middle-school campus in Oklahoma City. The school was located on 919 NW 23rd St in the Uptown region, specifically the Asia District, and adjacent to the Eastside of Oklahoma City.[5] Due to the flexibility of the charter school district, students were able to attend from across the State of Oklahoma. They first served grades 6–8 in the 2001–2002 school year with approximately 250 students, and the following year, they began offering grades 9–12. The school continued to expand, becoming prominent in the Oklahoma City metro area for their rigorous STEM, science, and engineering program, consistently ranking high within the state. In January of 2025, Dove Schools announced plans to take over a 21.5-acre campus located on Northwest Expressway in Warr Acres, Oklahoma. The campus was previously owned and managed by Hertz as a data center, being one of the largest employer in the State of Oklahoma at one point.[6][7][8] At the start of the 2025–2026 school year, the high school relocated, operating from the new campus, and announced plans to construct a gymnasium and multi-use athletics field.[9] Today, the school serves grades 8-12, with a student population of 501.

Academics and recognition

Dove Science Academy offers a rigorous STEM-focused curriculum, which including honors and Advanced Placement courses, engineering, computer science electives, and extracurricular STEM programs. One of those programs include a robotics team, which participate in various competitions both locally and nationally. Those include competitions like MathCounts, Science Olympiad, FIRST LEGO League, and FIRST Tech Challenge.[10] The school also offers arts, with extracurricular programs like music, photography, visual arts, and literary arts. Students who wish to take harder classes are given the option to take concurrent classes, which allows high school students to take college-level courses, earning both high school and college credits simultaneously.

Dove Science Academy is considered one of the best high schools in the State of Oklahoma, currently ranking third statewide. In 2014, they ranked second in the State of Oklahoma, marking their highest state ranking ever. They trailed behind only Harding Charter Preparatory High School.[11] Known for its rigorous STEM and college preparatory program, they continued to maintain their top three ranking, and in 2017, the school became a Blue Ribbon School.[12][13] In 2025, they received a $9.2M grant from the United States Department of Education,[14][15] and that same year, Secretary of Education Linda McMahon visited the campus alongside Governor Kevin Stitt, touring the facility, participating in a round table, and observing the schools STEM curriculum and robotics.[16][17][18]

Athletics

Dove Schools originally did not offer any athletics. They appointed mascots to their Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro area schools, but preferred to focus more on their holistic and academic programs. After students petitioned, the district allowed their schools to begin creating and operating teams. The Dove Schools of OKC district plays under the mascot "The Rockets" and the campus offers Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball. They compete under the OSSAA, the governing body of high school athletics in the State of Oklahoma.[19][20]
