The Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ETTI) is a faculty of the Politehnica University of Bucharest specializing in electronics, telecommunications, microelectronics, and computer engineering. The faculty was established in 1953..[1]

It also has collaborations with universities in Romania and abroad.[2]

History

The earliest predecessor was the Romanian School of Electronics and Telecommunications, established in 1920 as part of the UPB. In 1924, it became the Telephony–Telegraphy specialization within the Faculty of Electromechanics. In 1929, it evolved into a separate department called Electrocommunications.

In 1953, the Faculty of Electronics was established as part of the Faculty of Electromechanics, comprising the specializations of Electronics, Radiocommunications, and Telephony–Telegraphy. In 1955, it was renamed the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications. The faculty adopted its current name, the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ETTI), in 2005.[3]

The faculty follows the Bologna Process,[4] with study programs organized into three cycles: a bachelor's degree program lasting 4 years, intended to provide basic training for future engineers in telecommunications and information technology; a master's degree program, aimed at deepening specialization; and doctoral studies. All study programs are accredited by ARACIS (the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education). The faculty also collaborates with universities in Romania and abroad, and its diplomas are recognized internationally.[1]

Bachelor programmes

The faculty offers bachelor’s programmes in two domains:

  • Domain of Computer and Information Technology
    • Information Engineering[9]

The English-language study programmes are accredited by ARACIS and certified under the EUR-ACE accreditation system for engineering degree programmes.[1][10] Students enrolled in these programmes may participate in Erasmus+ mobility programmes and continue their studies in English-language master's programmes in Romania and abroad.[1]

Research

Within the faculty, scientific research is carried out in research centres and laboratories. High-achieving students are encouraged to participate in research activities, which can support their dissertation projects or internship applications[11]. There are currently 4 active research centers:

  • Research Center for Telecommunication Systems, Networks and Software (CCSRST)[12].
  • Center for Space Information Research (CEOSpace Tech)[13].
  • Center for Electronics Technology and Interconnection Techniques (CETTI)[14].
  • Microelectronics Research and Development Center EDIL[15]
