R. Gopakumar (born 17 May 1972) is an Indian digital artist. He works in digital art, new media art, and contemporary art, and has participated in various art exhibitions in India and abroad.[1]




Early life and education
Born in Oachira in the Kollam district of Kerala, India, Gopakumar developed an interest in painting from a young age. He studied art at Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts and later studied art history at the London Art College.[1]
Art career
Painting, digital art, and new media art are among Gopakumar's main areas of practice. He is known for artworks that combine Indian traditions with contemporary social themes and technology.
In 2012, he participated in study programs related to contemporary art and new media art organized by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.[2]
In 2014, he was included in the final list of Motion Photography Prize jointly organized by Saatchi Gallery and Google in London.[3] That same year, he also participated in the Critical Juncture exhibition and residency program, a collateral project of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.[4]

In subsequent years, his works were exhibited in contemporary art and digital art exhibitions held in countries including India, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Sweden, South Korea, the United States, Bulgaria, Spain, and Bahrain.[5][6]
In 2021, his works were exhibited at CADAF (Contemporary and Digital Art Fair) in Paris.[7]
In 2024, he participated in MoCA L.I.ghts organized by the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Long Island, New York.[8]
In 2025, his digital art series, The Wild Awakening, was presented in the curated artist category on the Sedition art platform.[9]
That same year, he also participated in Art for Peace and Nonviolence held in Kochi.[6]
