Ng Kwan Hoong (also known as Christopher Ng Kwan Hoong) is a Malaysian medical physicist and emeritus professor at the University of Malaya's (UM) Faculty of Medicine. He is best known for his research in predicting breast cancer risk by measuring breast density in patients.[1]

Ng has authored or co-authored over 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has presented over 550 scientific papers, including more than 350 invited lectures.
Career
Ng is a founding member of the Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP). He has held leadership positions including President of AFOMP, President of the South East Asian Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (SEAFOMP), and Founding Chairman of the ASEAN College of Medical Physics (ACOMP).
Honours and Awards
In 2018, Ng received the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award from the UK-based International Organisation for Medical Physics (IOMP), which represents 25,000 medical physicists worldwide. He is the first and only Asian, and one of eight people globally, to receive this award since 2000.[2]
In 2020, he won the Merdeka Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement. Past recipients include historian Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim, economics professor Rajah Rasiah, and engineering professor Masjuki Haji Hassan.[3]
In 2022, he was conferred Emeritus Professor status by the University of Malaya in recognition of his 35 years of service. Ng has also been elevated as a fellow of The World Academy of Science (TWAS)
Other Work
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ng led a multidisciplinary team to create an online resource for emerging COVID-19 research, aiming to combat misinformation and provide reliable data for health professionals and scientists.[4]
Personal Life
Ng is a father of two and grandfather of three and is married to Sia Leng Suan[5]
