Peronospora affinis is a species of oomycete in the family Peronosporaceae. It is a downy mildew associated with plants in the family Papaveraceae, especially fumitories (Fumaria species).[1]
Taxonomy
The species was described by Rossmann in 1857. GBIF places it in the genus Peronospora, family Peronosporaceae, order Peronosporales, class Peronosporea, phylum Oomycota.[2] Index Fungorum records the name as Peronospora affinis Rossmann, published in Rabenhorst's Klotzschii Herbarium Vivum Mycologicum in 1857.[3]
Although traditionally treated by mycologists, downy mildews such as Peronospora are not true fungi, but fungus-like oomycetes.[4]
Hosts and symptoms
Peronospora affinis has been recorded on fumitories in the family Papaveraceae. The infection may cause distorted plants and a brownish-purple downy growth, consisting of erect, repeatedly branched conidiophores.[1]
Distribution
Occurrence records are listed in GBIF and national biodiversity databases, including records from Europe.[2]
