Purvesh Pratap Sarnaik (born 28 December 1991) is an Indian politician associated with the Shiv Sena. He was elected as a corporator to the Thane Municipal Corporation in the 2017 municipal elections from Ward 14 and has held leadership positions within Yuva Sena, the youth wing of Shiv Sena, including serving as Working President of the organisation in Maharashtra. During the 2022 split in Shiv Sena, he joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde, a development that received coverage in national and regional media.[1][2]
Personal life
Purvesh Sarnaik was born on 28 December 1991 in Dombivli, Maharashtra, India. He is the son of Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra minister Pratap Sarnaik. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hospitality Administration and Management from ITM Group of Institutions between 2012 and 2014.
He is married to Kashmira Patil, daughter of politician Ranjit Patil.[3]
Political career
Municipal politics
Sarnaik was elected as a corporator to the Thane Municipal Corporation in the 2017 municipal elections from Ward 14 as a candidate of the Shiv Sena.[4][5]
Following his election, Sarnaik became active in local politics in the Thane and Mira-Bhayandar region, where media reports noted his increasing involvement in organisational and constituency-level activities.[6][7]
Yuva Sena
Sarnaik has been associated with Yuva Sena, the youth wing of Shiv Sena. He served as a Yuva Sena office-bearer and was reported as a Yuva Sena secretary during the political developments surrounding the 2022 split in Shiv Sena.[8]
Following his tenure as a corporator, Sarnaik became active in organisational activities of Yuva Sena across Maharashtra. During the 2022 split in Shiv Sena, he joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde. [9]

Statewide political activities
In 2025, as Yuva Sena Working President, he announced a statewide programme marking Eknath Shinde's birthday as "Common Man Day", with activities planned across Maharashtra.[11]
Sarnaik announced that he would not contest the upcoming Thane Municipal Corporation elections and stated that party workers should be given opportunities to contest local elections.[12][13][14]
He has also participated in organisational outreach programmes in districts including Solapur, where he advocated increased youth participation in party activities.[15]
Apart from politics, Sarnaik has been associated with the Pro Govinda League, an initiative connected with Dahi Handi celebrations in Maharashtra. The league received media attention for participation in international cultural events and public programmes like Govinda competitions.[16][17][18]

Sarnaik has raised civic issues relating to public safety and urban infrastructure in the Thane region. In 2022, he called for increased police patrolling and monitoring of skywalks for women's safety in Thane.[19]

Legal issues
In 2014, police registered an extortion case against a couple accused of threatening Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik and his son Purvesh Sarnaik. The matter received coverage in regional and national media.[21][22]
In 2020, Sarnaik was reported in connection with investigations conducted by central agencies relating to matters involving members of his family.[23][24]
