Fenstermaker's first job in professional baseball was as advance video scouting intern with the Seattle Mariners in 2009[6]. Ross began his tenure with the Texas Rangers in 2010 as a baseball operations intern. He served as a professional scout from 2011-16 before spending the 2017 season as an international crosschecker.

Ross was elevated to director of professional scouting in 2018 and senior director of professional and international scouting in 2020. He was promoted to vice president and assistant general manager for player development and international operations in 2022, serving three years in that role before being appointed to his current position as general manager in November 2024.
