Russia participated in and hosted Intervision 2025 in Novoivanovskoye, Moscow. The song "Pryamo po serdtsu", performed by Shaman and written by Maxim Fadeev, was selected internally. Channel One was the representing broadcaster.

Background

Prior to the 2025 contest, Russia had participated in the Intervision Song Contest once. They debuted in and hosted the 2008 edition, being represented by Kvatro. The country ended up in second place.[1]

A day after the beginning of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, on 25 February 2022, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) excluded Russia from the Eurovision Song Contest.[2] The next day, on 26 February, the three Russian broadcaster members of the EBU (RTR, Channel One, and RDO) announced their intention to withdraw from the EBU following their exclusion from the contest, which became effective on 1 March.[3]

On 3 February 2025, Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, ordered the return of the Intervision Song Contest by a decree,[4][5] inviting several countries to the contest, with the goal of "developing international cultural and humanitarian cooperation".[6]

Before Intervision

Internal selection

The Russian artist for Intervision 2025 was internally selected by the organizers of the contest. On 19 May 2025, Russian news outlets and Channel One announced Shaman as the entrant of the country at Intervision 2025.[7]

His song entry's title was announced to be "Pryamo po serdtsu" on 6 June 2025,[8] and was released the next day.[9] Composer and writer Maxim Fadeev later confirmed that three different versions were created before the final song got selected.[10]

At Intervision

Russia performed 9th at the 2025 contest, following the United Arab Emirates and preceding Brazil. The contest was broadcast on Channel One in Russia, with commentary provided by Yana Churikova and Yuriy Aksyuta.[11] The voting juror for Russia was Igor Matvienko.[12]

Voting

Russia was not included in the final results for unknown reasons. After his performance, the representative of Russia, Shaman, addressed the audience and asked the jury to skip him in the voting, as "he was not interested in competing for victory, but rather in ensuring hospitality and giving other participants a chance".[13]
