Semi Jaupaj (born 6 October 1993) is an Albanian singer active in contemporary pop music. She has participated in major Albanian music festivals and television competitions, including Festivali i Këngës, Kënga Magjike, Top Fest and The Voice of Albania.[1]
Early life and education
Jaupaj developed an interest in music at an early age. She made her first stage appearance at the age of ten, competing at the National Children’s Festival held in Shkodër. Three years later, she was awarded Best Singer at the same festival. Semi later pursued formal music training at the Jordan Misja Artistic Lyceum, where she completed her studies in vocal performance (canto).
Career
Jaupaj made her contemporary genre debut in May 2010 by participating at Top Fest 7 with the song Afër Meje. Later that year, she competed in the television talent show Star Akademi, finishing in second place. In November, she took part in Kënga Magjike with the song Energji Pozitive, composed by Bojken Lako, which advanced to the semifinals.
The following month, she participated in the 49th edition of Festivali i Këngës with the song Dritë, performed as a duet with Albi Xhepa. The entry was awarded best song in the youth category and qualified for the final. During this time, Jaupaj co-founded a female vocal group named Grifshat and competed at Kënga Magjike 2011, reaching the semifinals with Jashtë lëkure nuk do dal.
She later returned to Festivali i Këngës with the song Të zakonshëm, performed as a duet with Bojken Lako. In 2012, Jaupaj and Grifshat participated at Top Fest 9 with the song Pafundësi, which again advanced to the semifinals. On November 2013, she competed at Kënga Magjike with the song Vetëm.
On 7 July 2014, Jaupaj released the single Without You, produced by Vin Veli. She was a finalist in the fourth season of The Voice of Albania.[2]
Semi returned to Kënga Magjike for the fifth time in September 2015 with the song Veç lotët, written by Eriona Rushiti. In May 2019, Jaupaj released the music video Colours, produced by Bulza. She continued her presence at national music events with the song Jetike performed in May 2021 at Kënga Magjike. On 15 February 2022, she released the music video Mos U Kthe, which reached 19th place on The Top List music charts.[3]Semi would later pair up with Ron Zaiti on the succesful hit All you lovin, which was released on 26 May 2022.[4]
On March 2024, Jaupaj released another succesful hit, Fotografia, a collaboration with Emra Brah. The song was written by Emra Brah and Elgit Doda, with orchestration by Frensi and Xhoni Beats and produced by Moon Studio. Its accompanying music video was produced by Fullmoon Production and filmed by The Claudia.[5]
On October 2024, Jaupaj collaborated with Romeo Veshaj on the song Ta fal. Several months later, she collaborated with Don Phenom on the song Rakia, which entered The Top List music charts.
On October 2025, she released the single Mami-Wata, marking a stylistic return combining afrobeat and pop influences. The song draws on the metaphor of the mythological figure Mami Wata and emphasizes a powerful vocal performance within an exotic musical arrangement.
