Tunji Olowolafe is a Nigerian businessman and philanthropist who serves as the Chancellor of Ekiti State University.[1][2][3][4]
He is the chairman of Deux Project Limited and has previously served as the chairman of West African, aluminium can manufacturing company, GZ Industries.[5][6]
Early life and education
Olowolafe received his MBBS degree from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria and practiced as a medical doctor before he transitioned to business in 1988.[5][7]
Career
Olowolafe is the co-founder and chairman of Deux Project Limited, a company that specializes in hospital infrastructure projects.[8] He has served as chairman of GZ Industries which is an aluminium can manufacturing company in West Africa.[1][9]
He has held non-executive directorship roles at West Power & Gas, the core investor in Eko Electricity Distribution Company and Infracorp Nigeria, a $15 billion infrastructure investment platform backed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Africa Finance Corporation, and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.[10] He has also served as a non-executive director of the education technology company ULesson.[8] In 2026, Tunji Olowolafe launched the Gbemisola Olowolafe Miva Scholarship, a 1 billion naira programme providing undergraduate scholarships to 1,000 students at Miva Open University.[11][12][13][14]
Chancellorship
In January 2024, Olowolafe was appointed Chancellor of Ekiti State University by Governor Abiodun Oyebanji.[15][16][17] In the same year, he announced the establishment of innovation and agribusiness endowment fund for students and graduates of Ekiti State University.[18][19][20][21] In 2026, Olowolafe introduced Project Digi-Teach EKSU, a digital skills programme designed to equip all 650 lecturers at Ekiti State University with competencies for technology-driven teaching and learning.[22][23][24]
Philanthropy
In 2024, Olowolafe announced the establishment of the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, which runs educational initiatives including the Gbemisola Olowolafe Memorial ICT Centre and the Gbemisola Olowolafe Memorial Community Secondary School.[15][25]
Personal life
Olowolafe was married to Gbemisola Olutayo Olowolafe, who passed away on 11 March 2025 at the age of 63 after a brief illness in Texas, United States.[26][27] The couple had 3 children.[28]
