Chatham Hospital (also known as UNC Health Chatham) is a rural, critical access hospital in Siler City, North Carolina, operated by UNC Health. The facility has 25 patient beds and offers a range of surgical, medical, maternity, and outpatient services, along with an 11-bed emergency department.[1][2]

History

Chatham Hospital opened in 1937 in a small, two-story brick house about three miles west of downtown Siler City. In 1950, a purpose-built, three-story facility was constructed across the street and underwent major expansions in 1968 and 1997 to add a new patient wing and emergency department, respectively.[3] In 2008, Chatham Hospital joined the UNC Health system, and a larger, single-story hospital was built on Progress Boulevard, approximately two miles east of downtown. The original building remained vacant from 2008 until 2018, when it was sold and demolished to make way for new townhomes.[4]
