Hilda May Clulow (née Heath; 15 March 1908 – 24 December 2019) was a British supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in the United Kingdom from October to December 2019.[1][2]

Biography

Hilda May Heath was born on 15 March 1908 in Selly Park, Birmingham, England, and was one of six siblings.[3] She began working as a dressmaker at the Balsall Heath Factory at the age of 16 and continued there until her retirement at 60.[4]

In 1937, she married Arthur Clulow, with whom she had one son, Barry.[2] She had seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In later life, she resided at Bowood Court & Mews Care Home in Redditch, Worcestershire.[1]

Longevity

Clulow became the oldest known living person in the United Kingdom in October 2019, following the death of 112-year-old Gwen Payne.[2] She celebrated her 111th birthday in March 2019 with a 1940s-themed party.[1] Clulow died on 24 December 2019 in Redditch at the age of 111 years and 284 days.[1][4][3] Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024.[3]
