Nyaung U Airport (Burmese: ပုဂံညောင်ဦးလေဆိပ်) (IATA: NYU, ICAO: VYBG), also known as Bagan Nyaung Oo Airport, is an airport located in Nyaung-U (or Nyaung Oo), a town in the Mandalay Region, Myanmar. It is the primary air gateway to the ancient sites of Bagan and surrounding areas. It The airport has one asphalt runway measuring 2,591 metres (8,500 ft).
History
Customs aerodrome
On 11 December 2019, the Myanmar government designated Nyaung U Airport as a Customs Aerodrome, allowing it to handle international charter flights and customs procedures.[3] The designation was intended to promote tourism to Bagan following its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Initially, the airport planned to prioritize international charter flights, particularly tourist groups from Cambodia.[4][5]
Damage from earthquake
Nyaung U Airport suffered damage in the 2025 Myanmar earthquake[6] and had undergone upgrades by June 2026.[7]
Facilities
The airport is at an elevation of 312 feet (95 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 18/36 with an asphalt surface measuring 2,591 by 30 metres (8,501 ft × 98 ft).[1]
