Good Article Nomination

I've looked over this article, and it seems to pass all of the criteria for a good article except on one minor point.

  1. It is well written.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
  3. It is broad in it's coverage.
  4. It adheres to NPOV policies.
  5. It seems to be relatively stable.
  6. It contains images. If this article got one more good, appropriate, legal image, I'd give it a "pass" without hesitation. That's my only sticking point.

Not a huge deal. Lemme know on my talk page if you get it another image. Nswinton 16:18, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I disagree. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.151.186.190 (talk) 20:20, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Per WP:WIAGA 6(b): a lack of images does not in itself prevent an article from achieving Good Article status, I'm going to go ahead and pass it for GA status; I agree with Nswinton that everything else seems to be well done. I made some minor rearrangements before doing so. Chubbles 05:24, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Response

I've heard from countless people who they changed their opinion of Timberlake due to his being able to make fun of his boy-band image by doing Dick in a Box. It's anecdotal, but maybe there's an article out there somewhere to cite. You always hear about the organized complaints after something like this, but there's no real way to quantify increased respect. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by NjtoTX (talkcontribs) 23:34, 22 April 2007 (UTC).

Music genre

The video is a parody of R&B sex ballad videos from the early 1990s.
Who, specifically? I can't seem to recall any male duo or group of artists that sang sex-me-up songs like this, though I suppose solo artists like Al B. Sure might qualify. -Rolypolyman 14:15, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

GA Sweeps (on hold)

This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed.

  • The Lead is not appropriate for the article: the information about concert performances should likely be below in the body, and there's no brief description of what the video is in the lead.
  • The Response section is too disjointed written in the present style - One or two paragraphs would likely be clearer both in the main section and in the parodies.
  • Make sure all the parodies/pop culture references are appropriate; and also consider general issues with linking to copyrighted videos on Youtube and other video sites.

I will check back in no less than seven days. If progress is being made and issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far. Regards, MASEM 23:08, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Dick in a Box

I've listed this article for peer review because I'd like to get this to FA status.

Great to see this article here. Reminds me of the 2000s, when we had memes like this song! I'll review this article next week. Usually, I'd say that you should contact the user who brought the article to GA status to see if they're interested in helping out but, considering that the user is semi-retired, I don't think that you'd be required to do that now. You have authored 20% of the page, which is okay. What ultimately matters is that you're familiar with the article. If you are, then the stage is yours. A quick recommendation - post a notice for this PR on relevant WikiProjects (Music, Justin Timberlake) to get more feedback. In peer reviews, I usually prefer to get feedback from at least three different users. Cheers, Vacant0 (talk contribs) 17:57, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

@Vacant0: It's been 9 days, are you still interested in giving feedback? No rush btw. RedShellMomentum 00:02, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, I did not forget about this. I’ll most likely leave comments today. Vacant0 (talk contribs) 06:11, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Sources – okay on reliability, academic sources incorporated. Titles incosistent, all of them should either be sentence case or title case. It's up to you to choose. Nothing appears to be unsourced
    • Done.
  • You should add a short description.
    • Doesn't the infobox automatically generate one?
      • Honestly, I don't know. But there does not appear to be a {{short description}} in the article. That's why.
        • Added one.
  • Images – add missing alt texts.
    • File:Mickey Rourke 10 December 2010 (cropped).jpeg – dead URL for source
      • Replaced.
    • File:Andy-Samberg-David-Shankbone-2010-NYC-791x1024.jpg – needs a better source
      • Fixed that.
    • File:2014 Dragon Con Cosplay - Dick in a Box (15120672941).jpg – dead URL for source
      • Removed.
  • Prose
    • Lede okay, all explained well. Digital Short should be explained.
      • Done.
    • formed the → form the
      • Done.
    • Explain what Digital Short is in the body.
      • Done.
    • Introduce Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph occupations.
      • Done.
    • Rest of the prose is excellent.

That's it from me. Please ping me once you nominate it for FAC so I can leave a vote. Cheers, Vacant0 (talk contribs) 11:43, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

Leafy46

Hello! Just some notes from what I see in the article; it's not an extensive review, just some points which stood out to me from a readthrough of the article. Everything will be based on this current revision Leafy46 (talk) 19:04, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

@Leafy46: Thanks for your comments! My replies are below. RedShellMomentum 19:48, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Might it be worth including the stylized censored version of the title in the top of the article, akin to articles like Fuck You (CeeLo Green song) or Fuckin' Perfect? Especially because SNL itself refers to the song as "D*** in a Box" on the online video and The Lonely Island have released it with that title (link).
    • Done.
  • "The trio" in the lead reads pretty clunky, because it's not established the The Lonely Island is a trio; it currently reads to me like it's saying the Lonely Island is a duo, and Timberlake makes it a trio.
    • Fixed.
  • Is "exploit" a good word choice in "Michaels insisted they exploit more of Timberlake's musical side"? I know that it's used in the VH1 source, but it reads as having a particularly negative connotation where it should be more neutral.
    • Reworded.
  • I don't think the "Music video" section should be above the composition of the song. Even if it works like that narratively, it shoves the actual details of the song ("Composition" and "Premise and themes") further down the article when it should in theory be about the song first.
    • Done.
  • "Believed the sketch qualified as a Christmas film..." — "Believed" to "Believing"
    • Done.
  • "The fictional duo was named 2:30 am, which Timberlake explained is the time (until 5:00 am) when 'really strong lovemaking happens'." — This sentence reads as pretty clunky because of the different tenses and everything, there has got to be a way to make it read a little smoother.
    • Does "The fictional duo was named 2:30 am, which Timberlake described as the time (until 5:00 am) when 'really strong lovemaking happens'" work?
      • It definitely reads better, but I think it loses the fact that Timberlake was explaining why the group was called 2:30 am. How about "Timberlake and Samberg named their duo 2:30 am, after what the former described as when 'really strong lovemaking' begins" or smth along those lines? It drops the detail about 5am, but to a certain extent that's extraneous information. Leafy46 (talk) 19:54, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • "He believed other shows and networks would be likely to follow NBC's lead in making inappropriate-for-TV material available online, saying. "Now that the door has been opened, some things will go through it." " — Grammar
    • Done.
  • What makes the blog post from Gigaom (source 83) a high-quality, reliable source?
    • Kept one, removed the other.
  • Ditto for Cinema Blend (source 126)?
    • Removed.
  • Source 128 (IFC) is a dead link, and should be fixed
    • Fixed.

  • Some of the genres in the infobox are not supported on the text such as comedy hip-hop and dirty rap.
    • Removed.
  • In December, the trio wrote and recorded "Lazy Sunday" → year?
    • Added year.
  • and "I'm on a Boat" → year of release between brackets
    • Added.
  • at the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show. → similar to previous
    • Also added.
  • (both from Scrubs) → (the latter two from Scrubs)
    • Done.
  • The songwriters won the award at the 59th Primetime Creative Arts ceremony on September 8 → which songwriters, from which songs?
    • Changed that.
  • Including rapper P. Diddy, Donald Trump and his wife Melania → Are they all rappers? All of them American?
    • Also changed that.
  • "I Just Had Sex" → year of release between brackets
    • Added.
  • On Personnel {{spaced ndash}}
    • Used " " instead.
Really good job so far! Let me know once you are done. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 19:36, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

  • Target 1990s R&B
    • Done.
  • I also believe you should target the whole phrase "an episode in October 2003".
    • Done.
  • The music the songwriters grew up listening to inspired "Dick in a Box". Replace "the songwriters" with their real names
    • Used "the Lonely Island" instead.
  • "Photographs of Jorma and Asa Taccone", "See caption", "Photograph of Lorne Michaels" etc., I don't think they are proper alt for the images.
    • Will do tomorrow. Done.
  • lead single and Jupiter is overlink ig?
    • Removed.
  • I don't see the necessity of italicizing "left, picutred ~" and "right, pictured ~" in multiple images template
    • Removed.
  • You're prominently using "[author name] of [publication name]" style, but I suggest you to use various styles rather than using this.
    • Will do tomorrow. Done.
  • concert tour FutureSex/LoveShow ➡️ concert tour, FutureSex/LoveShow
    • Done.
  • MOS:PSEUDOHEAD in "Credits and personnel" section
    • Done.
  • Target music streaming service in Release history section
    • Not done. The "streaming" refers to streaming on TV/NBC, not on music platforms.
