- Is it well written?
- A. The prose is clear, concise and understandable to an appropriately broad audience, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
Everything is understandable. I fixed some grammar errors present, but other than that everything is fine. The article says that his name is "Martim Sarmento", but source says his name is "Martins Sarmento", like the society. Which one is correct?Fixed
- B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:

this source doesn't back up the claim "the main hall was inaugurated in 1907".Fixedthis source doesn't fully back up the claim "The first phase of the project, aimed at giving the headquarters a new façade (replacing the outdated and deteriorating one and bringing the building closer to the street by eliminating the small open area in front) began on 25 May 1901 and lasted until 1908".fixed
- D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
Earwig gave me a 2.0%, and it just detected the Portuguese spelling as being similar. No copyright violations hereThe sentence "In 1957, a tender was launched for the completion of the building, which was finished in 1967." looks to be copy and pasted from it's source. Please re-write the sentence so it doesn't copy it.- It actually seems like a lot of the text has been closely paraphrased, such as
- "On 4 January 1887, the Guimarães City Council decided to hand over to the MSS, on a temporary basis, what was left of the building of the now-defunct convent of S. Domingos and an annex structure to establish a museum and a library. The following year, a decree was issued granting the MSS permanent possession of the building and its annexes, and from 1890 onwards, a series of interventions were made to adapt the complex to the Society's needs and projects",
- which closely paraphrases source. Please rewrite the text in your own words.
The text "The work carried out after 1947, more than just monitoring the construction, involved the production of several execution drawings (construction details, furniture and lighting designs) that completed the 1936 project." closely paraphrases this source.Everything has been rewritten.

- Pass or Fail:

@It is a wonderful world: @MSK: pinging for a final review from mentors. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 06:57, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- @V.B.Speranza: Not sure if you got a notification that this article is under review Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 02:17, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- @V.B.Speranza: 2nd courtesy ping. Please fix the issues present in the article. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 22:13, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Dragonhawk12: Hi, I got sources 1 and 2 at the municipal library, I don’t know if there are digital copies, for that reason I went there physically to get them. I fixed the rest of the problems you pointed too. V.B.Speranza (talk) 23:57, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- I would still need to verify that the books back up the claims. There are two options:
- Add a quotation of the information that backs the info up within the sources, such as in Ambrosetown, or
- Send me images of the pages that back the source up through my email.

- @Dragonhawk12: Dude, I checked the book over six months ago, before even making this nomination. Very few copies were printed and they are very expensive, so I’m not sure if they still have any left or if someone has bought them since then. I’m quite busy with exams at the moment, but I’ll go down to the archives sometime this week or next to check. It would be fair to pause the deadline for this GA until then. V.B.Speranza (talk) 00:25, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- There isn’t a deadline for GAs, you just had to respond before 2 weeks. I’ll keep the nomination up for as long as you need. (Within reason, of course.) If progress isn’t made in a while, and there isn’t any update replies, I will fail the article. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 00:26, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- I was informed that I can assume good faith when sources aren't accessible, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 06:55, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Dragonhawk12: I’ll still see if I can get you those pictures, meanwhile, all changes you pointed were made, is it a pass? V.B.Speranza (talk) 19:52, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Sense I am a newbie doing this for the backlog drive, I have to wait for my mentors to look over the article a final time. If everything is good, this will pass. If not, the issues they find will have to be fixed before it’s passed. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 19:54, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Ok, I will wait for @It is a wonderful world: then. V.B.Speranza (talk) 22:00, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, I'll get to this the day after tomorrow. Super busy with work right now. IAWW (talk) 23:26, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Dragonhawk12 and @V.B.Speranza, sorry it took me so long to get to this. Here are some comments on the article:
- The alt-text for the first file in the gallery seems to be wrong
- Adding some translated titles of the references would be very helpful
- Grammar was mostly good, but I made a few fixes which you can check if you want to polish up your English a bit
- The only thing missing from the review is a spot check. As mentioned before you should include the full spot check in the review, however it is clear that it was done here, and you have included it in your most recent review, so I think it'll be fine to omit it here. IAWW (talk) 12:43, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- Once those are addressed, I'll be happy to see this pass. IAWW (talk) 12:44, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- I forgot to say, but I checked all the sources. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 17:41, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- @It is a wonderful world: Hi, done! V.B.Speranza (talk) 04:10, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- Everything looks to be addressed. I will pass the article now. Congrats! Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 04:41, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

Did you know nomination
... that the Martins Sarmento Society Building combines three distinct architectural styles: Neo-Byzantine, Brutalist and Gothic?- ... that the Martins Sarmento Society Building uniquely combines the Neo-Byzantine and Gothic styles after it got connected to a 14th century cloister?

Overall:
Hello V.B.Speranza, happy to review this nomination. The article was promoted to GA status on June 24. It has a readable prose size of 6034 characters. Each paragraph in the body of the article is sourced. It does not use promotional or overly negative language. WP:EARWIG shows no copyvios. The hook is interesting, but I'm not sure that the source supports the hook. Where does it talk about Brutalist and Gothic styles? QPQ is still missing. In the article I think "gothic" should be upper case in the passage the old gothic Convent of S. Domingos. Phlsph7 (talk) 14:04, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- Phlsph7, V.B.Speranza has changed the hook to remove "brutalist", I have added back and struck the original. Did you see Talk:Martins Sarmento Society Building, where I asked similar questions? TSventon (talk) 09:47, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the changes and the note about the talk-page discussion. If we don't have a source about Brutalism, then this should probably be removed from the article as well. Concerning the new hook: I don't see where the new source talks about Neo-Byzantine and Gothic styles or about changes in the 14th century. The QPQ is also still missing. Phlsph7 (talk) 12:05, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, I pasted the wrong source, sorry for the late answer, lot of work, I also don’t know how to do a QPQ, never done one before and forgot I have to do it after 5 nominations. V.B.Speranza (talk) 09:28, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
I think this source fails again to properly support the claim. From what I can tell, it talks about a Byzantine influence but not a Neo-Byzantine one, does not mention Gothic style, and does not state that a mix of styles occurred through the connection to the cloister. I'm sorry but I'll have to fail this nomination given the repeated sourcing problems. For more information on the QPQ, see WP:QPQ. Phlsph7 (talk) 11:06, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

- @V.B.Speranza: the instructions for DYK reviews are at WP:DYKRI and are quite short. You also need to read the DYK introduction WP:DYK and guidelines WP:DYKCRIT. You don't have to check all the citations, but a spot check is recommended. As you are nominating your own articles, it would probably be easier to write the article in draft and do a review as a WP:QPQ and then nominate the article for DYK as a new article. Then you can nominate for GA later. TSventon (talk) 13:24, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Feedback
@V.B.Speranza:, hi, I am not doing a DYK review, but the hook fact should be in the article and supported by the reference. The hook mentions gothic, but as far as I can see the source and the article do not. Please could you check and fix the problem if necessary. Also a quote from the source would be useful as it is not in English. TSventon (talk) 19:12, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- @TSventon: The building incorporated the gothic Convent of S. Domingos following the completion of the second phase, incorporating the complex in the aforementioned structure. The source mentions the convent and the previous sentence is present in the article, but I’ve changed it a bit to make it more clear. V.B.Speranza (talk) 19:34, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- @V.B.Speranza:, thank you, I opened the article when you made the DYK nomination and then you added some information about the Gothic architecture before I posted my question. However I think a source that the cloister is Gothic would be useful both for the article and the nomination, for example https://imovel.patrimoniocultural.gov.pt/detalhes.php?code=69843.
- I understand that the museum includes the convent cloister Igreja de São Domingos (claustro) (Q39713707), while the convent church Igreja de São Domingos (Guimarães) (Q66813232) is still used as a church.
- Also, the source in the nomination does not mention brutalism either (again as far as I can see). The article mentions brutalism three times, including a category, but none of the mentions is followed by a reference (required for a hook fact). TSventon (talk) 22:18, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- @TSventon: you are right, it mentions the expansion which is visibly brutalist or Portuguese suave, a variation of the same, but it does not mention it directly. I will change the lead, thank you. V.B.Speranza (talk) 17:54, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
