  • Source: Explaining the torture & execution associated with the sentence: "Salmon was sentenced to be tortured (for the names of her accomplices)... and to be burned at the stake."[1] Explaining how the stay of execution got there just in time: "[Lecauchois] immediately petitioned the king for a stay of execution, which was duly granted, although the royal order barely got to Caen in time, on 27 July 1782, just a few days before Salmon was to be examined and executed."[1]
    • ALT1: ... that two of the lawyer Pierre Noël Lecauchois' former clients were married in a ceremony financed by members of the House of Orléans, which he attended?

    • Comment: Full disclosure about Alt0: Marie Salmon (his client) had a DYK hook run in March that referenced the first time she avoided being executed, whereas this hook references the second time she was nearly executed. About Alt1: the "which he attended" at the end sounds a little awkward to me, so I'm not against leaving it off. But I also wanted to emphasize that he was present at the ceremony.

  • In progress ...
  • Article is new enough (moved to mainspace May 9th, nominated the same day)
  • Article is long enough
  • Sourcing seems appropriate
  • Earwig finds no copyright problems
  • Nominator is QPQ exempt
  • ALT0 seems oddly worded. Lecauchois wasn't granted the stay, his client was. It's also kind of wordy; its well within the 200 character limit, but it still seems like it could be improved with some trimming.
  • ALT1 just seems overly complex and convoluted, so I'm rejecting that one outright.

  • Hello RoySmith, I have reworded ALT0 and crossed out ALT1. He is the one who petitioned for the stay on her behalf, hence the original wording: "was granted a stay of execution for his client...". Also, noting that the source says: "[Lecauchois] immediately petitioned the king for a stay of execution, which was duly granted, although the royal order barely got to Caen in time..."Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 16:37, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Also, to address your feedback about trimming it: what part of it do you believe could be trimmed? His profession seems relevant for context. Mentioning the short time frame is interesting, no? Also, specifying that she was going to be "tortured and burned at the stake" is accurate & also, I believe, interesting. Thank you — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 16:41, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Reflecting on this again, I think trimming "tortured and burned at the stake" to just "burned at the stake" would be fine, so I made that edit. — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 02:42, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Hello @RoySmith: I've made another revision to ALT0 above (I think this revision better reflects the source, which says that the stay of execution / royal order was delayed getting to Caen.) I've also updated the article to make the same distinction. When you have a chance, could you take a look at the revised hook & let me know what you think? Thank you! — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 17:36, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
  • @RoySmith: friendly ping, just waiting for your feedback on the revised hook. Thank you — Chao Garden 🌱 ~ say hello 04:31, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Chao Garden my apologies for letting this slip off my radar, and thanks for the ping. Approved. For future reference, rather than editing a proposed hook in-place, what we usually do is leave it as is and create a new version with a new tag, like ALT0a, ALT0b, etc. It just makes it easier to refer to a specific version. But you're good to go with this one now. RoySmith (talk) 10:39, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
