- ... that Hinode Shimbun, now known as The Kyoto Shimbun, was the only newspaper in Kyoto during the mid-Meiji period to survive past 1892?
- ALT1: ... that an employee of a newspaper company joined the police in charging towards a mob during a riot? Source: page 954."The situation was now serious, and a number of policemen, with drawn swords charged the crowed, and an employe of the office joined them with a sharp knife in hand."

- I'll review this. ALT0 might be interesting if written less specifically, but I think an ALT1 rewritten to comply with WP:DYKMAJOR might work and I have an idea. Give me until the review's done to make it work. ミラP@Miraclepine 15:10, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

Policy compliance:
- Adequate sourcing:
- A few cn tags - Neutral:
- The only issue here is that it might be skirting UNDUE given the large paragraph of the legal case re the short 1942-1979 paragraph. I'd recommending adding at the least a few sentences about their work on the 1995 Kobe earthquake to that paragraph (the ref is available through WP:LIBRARY). This isn't mandatory de jure, just recommending in case the article is challenged on such grounds. - Free of copyright violations, plagiarism, and close paraphrasing:

Overall:
346 B to 3481 B (10.06x) in the 48 hours up to nom, still at that very exact size. Not much to note except what was already noted here. Here are the hooks I proposed per my previous statement:
- ALT2a: ... that staff of the Kyoto Hinode Shimbun newspaper once defended their office by spraying rioters with water hoses? Source: The newspaper office was strongly defended by the members of the staff and the printers, assisted by policemen. They sent streams of water into the mob by hoses, while some of them threw stones into the crowd from the roof.
- ALT2b: ... that staff of the Kyoto Hinode Shimbun newspaper once defended their office from a mob by spraying rioters with water hoses? Source: Same as ALT2a
@Miminity: What do you think? ミラP@Miraclepine 17:07, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Miraclepine: Thank you for the review, I think the hooks are okay, all the cns are fixed. I cannot seem to access the source you provided even on WP:LIBRARY (I search for various terms and it does not show up) I added the Kobe Shimbun source as a substitute but, if you can access it, kindly please add it. - @Miraclepine: oooh that’s how you do it. Thanks also done. Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 04:25, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
- With just a few copyedits, the added ref checks out. Marking this pro forma

Cause of the riot referred to in the DYK hook
'Did you know that staff of the Kyoto Hinode Shimbun newspaper once defended their office by spraying rioters with water hoses'
Well, OK, but why? I read the DYK and came here to learn why, and I am none the wiser. There are a lot of dramatic details on the riot, but none on its causes. Fine, there was a political crisis, but why was the mob angry at the newspaper? What was the political stance of the newspaper? What was the (presumably contrary) political stance of the mob? A DYK hook is supposed to intrigue the reader and cause them to read the article in order to learn more about the fact in question and understand it in its wider context. When the article turns out not to provide any information elucidating the fact, the mechanism can only be described as clickbait. Anonymous44 (talk) 18:43, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
- The source does not specify what was Kyoto Hinode did to have it destroyed by rioters. Without any source, I think addition of anymore specific details is an WP:OR Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 20:59, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
