  • ... that Hinode Shimbun, now known as The Kyoto Shimbun, was the only newspaper in Kyoto during the mid-Meiji period to survive past 1892?
  • Source: page 18. "There were several newspapers published in Kyoto during the mid-Meiji period, but Hinode shimbun and Chūgai denpō are the only ones that appear to have survived the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and so Hinode shimbun is the only newspaper published after 1892."

  • I'll review this. ALT0 might be interesting if written less specifically, but I think an ALT1 rewritten to comply with WP:DYKMAJOR might work and I have an idea. Give me until the review's done to make it work. ミラP@Miraclepine 15:10, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

Cause of the riot referred to in the DYK hook

'Did you know that staff of the Kyoto Hinode Shimbun newspaper once defended their office by spraying rioters with water hoses'

Well, OK, but why? I read the DYK and came here to learn why, and I am none the wiser. There are a lot of dramatic details on the riot, but none on its causes. Fine, there was a political crisis, but why was the mob angry at the newspaper? What was the political stance of the newspaper? What was the (presumably contrary) political stance of the mob? A DYK hook is supposed to intrigue the reader and cause them to read the article in order to learn more about the fact in question and understand it in its wider context. When the article turns out not to provide any information elucidating the fact, the mechanism can only be described as clickbait. Anonymous44 (talk) 18:43, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

The source does not specify what was Kyoto Hinode did to have it destroyed by rioters. Without any source, I think addition of anymore specific details is an WP:OR Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 20:59, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
