Sprint Race

Do you want to include sprint wins as parameters, possibly also poles, fastest laps and sprint podiums? It would be useful to update this data. I'd already done this, in fact someone else had even updated the template better and updated the racers articles, but someone else didn't like it --Dorian88A (talk) 00:56, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

I am indifferent about sprint wins, although my caveat to that is they should come with an entries figure. Sprint poles, fastest laps, and podiums is certainly overkill; MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE: The less information that an infobox contains, the more effectively it serves its purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance. Full post-2021 sprint results are not key facts or statistics and are WP:UNDUE alongside the seven other metrics given, especially when they have been primarily treated as glorified practice sessions for the actual Grand Prix. Secondary sources do not take much notice of them at all and any weight given to sprints should reflect that. MB2437 09:29, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
You updated the template. Don't make this out to be more popular an idea than it is. And it was not a case of "someone else didn't like it". It is a case of "we have an established consensus against giving Sprint races and Grand Prix races equal weight", because no reliable source gives it equal weight. @EnTerbury: Yes, for current drivers, the convention is to only list the current team (or the team(s) for the previous and next seasons if we're between seasons as we are now); for drivers who have retired, all teams are listed - see Template:Infobox F1 driver. looking around a few articles, the infoboxes are anything but concise. they all include information that on their own would be completely unnotable. literally half of it could go immediately. i would argue that former teams are one of the most important pieces of information about a formula one racing driver in an encyclopedia article. thats what infoboxes are for in the first place.

@EnTerbury: I don't remember there being a discussion, but this is the convention which has evolved over time. You're more than welcome to start a discussion about the infobox contents at Template talk:Infobox F1 driver (it probably makes more sense to have a discussion there rather than on the talk page of an individual driver's article). Consensus is to not overload the infobox with unnecessary statistics. The infobox should not be used as a substitute for writing sentences in the main body of the article. --Falcadore (talk) 04:43, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
clearly, im not arguing to substitute writing sentences in the main body of the article, but recommend looking up the rationale of infoboxes.
  1. evidently, the infobox is overloaded as is. its 100 lines tall and almost reaches into the third section for me.
  2. if that really was the consensus, it would be rid of
    1. his list of former partners,
    2. either the entry of this or next years team (which coincidentally are literally the same),
    3. First entry, First win, Last win, Last entry,
    4. everything below "Previous series", at the very least have it collapsed,
    5. the lower half of the image; yet for some reason, it isnt.
  3. its absurd to include racing statistics with former teams but no mention thereof.
  4. its not an unnecessary but central statistic of a racing driver. its ridiculous to include all his former girlfriends but not former teams in formula one.

Whatever changes have been made to the template over the last few hours, the Name parameter now appears duplicated when Infobox F1 driver is embedded, see Lewis Hamilton or Michael Schumacher. MSport1005 (talk) 12:12, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
