Your submission at Articles for creation: Adekunle Owolabi (September 10)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Drmies was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
This is a resume, and not a good one.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Your submission at Articles for creation: Independent News Eswatini (December 18)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by TheInevitables was:
Your draft shows signs of having been generated by a large language model, such as ChatGPT. Wikipedia guidelines prohibit the use of LLMs to write articles from scratch. In addition, LLM-generated articles usually have multiple quality issues, to include:
Please address these issues. The best way is usually to read reliable sources and summarize them, instead of using a large language model. See our help page on large language models.

Biography

Owolabi studied Communication Science at the University of South Africa (UNISA), graduating in 2011. He also holds a Certificate in Community Journalism from UNISA (2014) and an Advanced Certificate in Business Administration from the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship (2013). Technical qualifications include a Diploma in Web Development from Jetcom (2003–2004), a Front-End Development certificate from Meta (2023), and an Android and Google Cloud Development certificate from the Google Africa Developer Scholarship programme (2020).[1] He completed an introduction to digital journalism course delivered by Thomson Reuters in September 2021.

Career

Early career in South Africa

Between 2015 and 2017, Owolabi worked as a digital strategist and developer at Nest Digital Agency in Johannesburg. He subsequently joined The Citizen, one of South Africa's oldest independent newspapers, as digital strategist and web developer, a position he held from 2017 to 2021.[1]

The National, UAE

From February 2021 to February 2022, Owolabi worked as a developer at The National, the Abu Dhabi-based English-language newspaper, extending his experience in digital news production to the Gulf region.[1]

Swazi24

Owolabi is the publisher and editor-in-chief of Swazi24, a digital-only news outlet covering politics, society, and current affairs in Eswatini.[2] In this capacity he holds both editorial and commercial oversight of the platform. Swazi24 is among the few independently operated digital news outlets in the country, operating in a media environment where press freedom organisations have noted constraints on independent journalism.[3]

Independent News Eswatini and other roles

Since February 2025, Owolabi has served as Head of Digital at Independent News Eswatini.[4] He also holds Head of Digital positions at The Africa Daily Post and Nest Hogins, both based in Johannesburg, roles he has occupied since March 2022. From March 2023 to April 2024 he served as Head of Digital at Diplomatic Watch LLC, a Maryland-based publication focused on international affairs.[1]

Journalism

Owolabi's editorial focus covers international diplomacy, African politics, business, culture, and travel. His bylines have appeared across multiple outlets including Swazi24,[2] Independent News Eswatini,[4] and Nomad Africa magazine, where he has contributed travel and culture writing.[5] His broader portfolio, as documented on his Muck Rack profile, includes work for Gatekeepers News, Olori Supergal, Diplomatic Watch, Ifako News, and Ikorodu News, among others.[1]

He has reported on pan-African integration, the digital divide in Africa, and regional diplomatic developments across southern Africa.

Views and advocacy

Owolabi has publicly advocated for the democratisation of digital access across Africa and for the removal of structural barriers to the movement of people, goods, and information across the continent — a perspective aligned with pan-African integration movements.[1] These views have informed his editorial choices and his digital strategy work, which has focused on building mobile-first, accessible news products for African audiences.

Swazi 24 moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Swazi 24, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
