Introduction to contentious topics
You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) caste-related topics in South Asia.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Goldbelly
Hi, hello. Thanks for the edit on Goldbelly. The article is a gazillion times better than it was. I just edited it to address issues with sourcing and content, all of which are noted in my edit summary. You might want to give the guidance on sourcing a read -- user generated content (Trustpilot) and articles written by contributors (notably on Forbes) are not reliable. The article was terrible before your edit! Thanks again. JSFarman (talk) 16:41, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you! I randomly came across it. I am a little new at this; will go through the guidance on sourcing Ar1201u1 (talk) 18:27, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

Hi Ar1201u1! I noticed that you recently made an edit at Lawrence A. Fernsworth and marked it as "minor", but it may not have been. On Wikipedia, "minor edit" refers only to superficial edits that could never be disputed, such as fixing typos or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not minor, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Nat Gertler (talk) 11:17, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Nat,
- I removed the redundant part (title of each of the 6 articles he wrote for Foreign Affairs), everything else is a cosmetic change. I am relatively a newbie, thanks for pointing me to the minor edit, I will keep that in mind. I didn't change the meaning anywhere, please let me know if there is something specific that changes the meaning or impression of a sentence and I will be happy to learn from that Ar1201u1 (talk) 18:16, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
- Moving an entire sentence between sections will almost never be a "minor" change for this purpose; it's a viable question of that information belongs in the introduction, particularly if it was not included in the body of the article, as the introduction is foremost a summary of the body.
- As for not changing the meaning anywhere, you did add that he wrote extensively on a topic, a subjective claim.
- Hope that helps! -- Nat Gertler (talk) 19:02, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
