I've quoted a post of yours from 2015 at
Brian - In case you're wondering why you got pinged from an article's talkpage...just wanted to let you know that at Talk:George Washington#Some thoughts about article length I quoted some of a post you made in 2015 at the WP:FAR for Ulysses S Grant. You talked about how it's not just the kb-length of an article that can be an issue, it's the sheer number of words that an article contains. Thanks for that, Shearonink (talk) 02:18, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

To be honest, I don't wanna bother you. I was torn about notifying you, but felt that not doing so might seem like a snub (which is ridiculous).... I would almost rather that you focus on yourself. No, I would really rather that you focus on yourself. But for the record, I'm doing stuff at Wikipedia:Peer review/Bengal famine of 1943/archive2. But you don't hafta comment. Hope all is well! Jeremy Thorpe scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the Jeremy Thorpe article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 29, 2019, the 90th anniversary of his birth. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 29, 2019, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so. We also suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors on the day before and the day of this TFA.
We now try to have a free image for every TFA if it's at all possible. Any thoughts? Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:22, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- None of the article's free images are suitable as a TFA image, and it's highly unlikely that a free image featuring Thorpe exists anywhere, so I fear that I am unable to help. Brianboulton (talk) 19:39, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the article, doing justice to someone who died, saying "Thorpe was the most talked-about politician in England 40 years ago, for all the wrong reasons – see Thorpe affair for details. Last December he died, and a new biography came out – publication had been delayed for fear of libel laws. I've used this new material to expand Thorpe's biographical WP article, and provide a fuller account of his life. I suppose, however, that what will always remain most prominent in readers' minds are the sensational events that finished his career prematurely."! There seems now no day without someone in recent deaths who has no article or two lines, - that's what I do, neglegting FAC. Today is a sad record. three of them: Sylvia Bretschneider, Ellen Schwiers and Heather Harper. I am happy I wrote at least a friend's article before he died. RIP. It was a surprise birthday gift. The last image with him is threatened with deletion. Sad. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:22, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Vespro della Beata Vergine
Brian, I come to you as the expert on Monteverdi I know here. I want to improve Vespro della Beata Vergine to at least GA quality, a work I love very much, and am going to perform in choir in September. I looked at what we have, and so far only fixed some of the formatting errors. The article has a long unreferenced section "History and context" which has little historical facts and a lot of OR about possibilities. Do you know where I would find reliable sources for a history section that deserves the name? Any other help is also most welcome. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:25, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
The first I took over from the composer's article is the Kemp review in Gramophone, a decent summary. Will look for more, especially the Whenham book on the 1610 Vespers, and dropped some facts with undue weight that really would require a ref. Language question: "The Vespers is" sounds wrong to me, which is strange as the German "Vesper" is a singular word. If you tell me that it is fine, I'll overcome the strangeness. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:34, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- If you are prepared to take this article on with a view to an eventual GA or FA, you are welcome to use the notes which I prepared a couple of years ago when I was thinking of developing it myself. You will find these on User:Brianboulton/Sandbox10. Essential books are the Cambridge Guide, and Whenham's book on the Vespers. The list of articles and websites may be out of date now - some of the articles require JSTOR access. Good luck with this - it's a formidable project to take on. Brianboulton (talk) 13:19, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you, very helpful, that sandbox is a treasure chest! Even if no GA, almost anything is better than the sad state I found it in. - How about the little language question, is "vespers" a plural or a singular? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:23, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Definitely plural in English, as with, say "psalms". Incidentally, much of the Kurzmann book is replicated in the Cambridge Companion. You can also use the Claudio Monteverdi article when trawling for other sources. Brianboulton (talk) 13:33, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Just to make sure: so it should be "the Vespers are ..."? - Monteverdi's article is where I found the two sources already used. It will be a slow proces, parallel (or rather after) to the daily short article, often in collaboration with LouisAlain who prolifically translates from French and German. I thought that Annunciation was a good occasion to begin ;) - Bach composed his BWV 1 for the day. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:40, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Gerda, The Cambridge Companion to Monteverdi and Whenham's Monteverdi: Vespers (1610) have large chunks available at Google Books. If you need any help getting articles from JSTOR, let me know (selection). By the way, The WP article on Vespers begins "Vespers is a sunset evening prayer service in the Orthodox, Roman Catholic..." (my bolding). Best, Voceditenore (talk) 13:50, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you! The Whenham is what I found and used already (a bit so far). Do we have to distinguish if Vespers means "a service" (singular) or a composition (of many movements in this case)? With article or without? An elegant way would be "Vespro" which looks like singular to me ;) - Thank you also for your down-to-earth and factual history of certain wars in the arb case request! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:05, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Gerda, The Cambridge Companion to Monteverdi and Whenham's Monteverdi: Vespers (1610) have large chunks available at Google Books. (my bolding). Best, Voceditenore (talk) 13:50, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
Update: I made some progress, please check. In the lead, I find no source for the longer name in Latin, and think the explanation of what vespers is might go to the body, - do you agree? I plan to improve further today, Magnificat, in honour of your birthday, wishing you a happy day! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:48, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
Today, I heard the fantastic work, in a OVPP performance with the Dunedin Consort, and the article is GA now. Any informal peer review welcome anytime. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:44, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Brian, Thanks again for your feedback on this FAC. Per your suggestion, I'm going through the article and adding more footnotes to make it clearer which sources cover which sources. I've finished with the first two sections (). I was hoping you might just take a quick peek at the changes to make sure I'm on the right track. Is this fine-grained enough? Am I overdoing it? If this is ok, I'll do the rest of the article.--Carabinieri (talk) 07:01, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

Women MPs
Hello,
Hope you don't mind me messaging you. Me and User:Worm That Turned are trying to start writing articles again after a long break. We've decided to try do women MP's and noticed your fantastic work on getting Margaret Bondfield to featured status. These early female MP's did so much to pave the way for future women's equal rights and deserve to be given the adequate recognition on Wikipedia. I was wondering if you're free to give us any pointers on this article we have just extended: Mabel Philipson
Thanks, ツStacey (talk) 21:40, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words! The Bondfield article was part of a trilogy on women politicians, the others being Ellen Wilkinson and Bessie Braddock – you may be interested in looking at these. Of course, there's a great many more sources to draw on when dealing with these major figures, but congratulations to you on finding and expanding such an interesting minor character as Mabel Phillipson, of whom I previously knew very little beyond her being one of the earliest women MPs. I will read through your article with great interest, and leave comments on the talk page – give me a day or two, though. Brianboulton (talk) 15:48, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi!
Hello! I've noticed your username in the list of FAC mentors. I'm currently writing an article draft about Indonesian homegardens, and I'm aiming a featured-article criteria for it. However, I'm afraid that the writing might be inadequate in its flow or readability, and I'm also afraid that I might accidentally came into indications of original research. If you have time, any revision or any form of constructive criticism will be appreciated. Thank you in advance! Dhio-270599 15:32, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Island of stability FAC
Hi Brian,
Just a friendly reminder that I'm still awaiting further feedback from you at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Island of stability/archive1. I finished addressing your initial comments about some of the sources two weeks ago, and rechecked all the sources from top to bottom per your suggestions, but the sources review has not progressed since then. Please take another look when you have the chance, and let me know if anything else needs to be fixed. Cheers, ComplexRational (talk) 19:00, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

| Dear Brian, I want to thank you for all the most excellent work you have done recently to rewrite the article on the Australasian Antarctic Expedition; it was epic in its own right! With kind regards; Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 22:54, 30 November 2019 (UTC) |
- Thank you for your kindness. I've always felt that this expedition got less recognition than it deserved, particularly in the UK – perhaps this will help to redress the balance, somewhat. Brianboulton (talk) 11:22, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
