Hi with the sources you added on Vimeo, where does it say the site was founded on Nov 14, 2004 and then launched on Dec 15, 2004? Cena332 (talk) 19:45, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- Referring to two items here: (1) the first version of the video sharing prototype and (2) the launch of the URL vimeo.com
- (Background: A precursor to the prototype existed on Jake Lodwick's personal blog during fall 2004. While that precursor is instrumental in understanding the impetus to the project, that precursor/blog is not applicable to either of the dates. This blogged video series of videos he called vidbits. These videos were linked to from the blog homepage, http://blumpy.org)
- The first version of the prototype itself is announced in what is currently numbered footnote 6 (now 7): "Sun, Nov 14th, 09:54pm HO HO HO, the new videos page is done!" This "new videos page" is the prototype. It existed at http://blumpy.org/videos
- The launch date refers to the launch of the URL vimeo.com. vimeo.com was registered on Dec 15, 2004 (now seen in footnote 4). This launched URL is a confusing part: it originally allowed one to access Vimeo (the product) through a server redirect to blumpy.org/vimeo. This in-use is confirmed here (vimeo.com Dec 17 snapshot). The Dec 17 (currently footnote 3) /vimeo and Dec 18 /vimeo snapshots I thought depicted the project address but the third snapshot (Dec 28) appears to be the first we see it in the project's footer. - Hi thank you I was just a bit confused about the date too. When Vimeo came out of the closed beta on June 18, 2005, wasn't that was Vimeo's actual launch date? YouTube's URL was registered on February 14, 2005, but that doesn't mean it was the day the website officially launched to the public. Cena332 (talk) 14:54, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Cena332 I don't think so because the videos were watchable, shareable, and downloadable by anyone during that period.
- While the site was launched and public, during that first period uploading and commenting required an account. At the beginning those accounts had to be registered manually but there wasn't a login gate with the videos hidden and requiring credentials (like with Facebook). The June 18 day refers to when a feature was added that a user could instantly register themselves without staff intervention.
- Further, in other articles we also use the launch date of the beta for the "launch" date, even when fewer features are available to the public, like in the case of Gmail. Chchowmein (talk) 19:49, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

I think I would use launch as April 23, 2005 because it could be confusing to have Me at the zoo list a date that predates the "launch" – a reader might see launch as existence and wonder how it could have been uploaded to the site before the site even existed. - Hi, I interpreted MOS:FILMCAST "For uncredited roles, a citation should be provided in accordance with Wikipedia's verifiability policy" I suppose incorrectly.
