PyWikibot removal of archive today links
Hi @Eric, I’m working on a Pywikibot to help remediate the remaining archive.today links following the RfC and guidance. The related BRFA discussion suggests there may need to be additional community discussion about implementation details.
Before I invest much more effort, I wanted to ask whether you’re aware of any WMF plans, discussions, or capabilities related to the remaining archive.today links. If the Foundation were to take additional action, would community-developed PyWikibot bot code potentially be useful, or would that likely be an entirely separate effort?
I’m not looking for the WMF to take over the cleanup. I’m mainly trying to understand whether this work is likely to complement future WMF activity or end up duplicating it.
Thanks!
ps Feel free to direct me to another forum or ask me to post this more publicly. Thanks again for your work at WMF. Dw31415 (talk) 17:32, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out about this, @Dw31415 -- and for helping report the archive.today redirect you experienced.
- No, we don't have any plans or capabilities that this effort would conflict with or duplicate. Right now, we're focused on supporting volunteer-led actions. I haven't reviewed the details of your bot, and would defer to the community to do that. But if your initiative gets some steam, we'd love to stay tied in and see if there are ways we can help it from our end. EMill-WMF (talk) 01:43, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
