Speedy deletion nomination of User:EddieandSprout/sandbox

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:EddieandSprout/sandbox, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. - Hello EddieandSprout -- I've declined this deletion request so that you can continue working on the draft; however a lot of the text is unsourced promotion, which isn't going to be acceptable. You need to stick purely to what reliable independent sources say about the subject, rather than anything you know personally.
- Also, I must ask, are you related to the subject in any way? If you are, then you need to read WP:Conflict of interest and follow the instructions about declaring your relationship. Further, I wonder if your account is shared by two people? This isn't permitted, so I suggest that you get a second account so that your edits can be attributed separately. If you need help then the Teahouse is a friendly forum for newcomers. Good luck! Espresso Addict (talk) 01:37, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- The subject is someone we knew from 30 years back. More friends with his right hand man a new person in change of his business side of things. They gave me a list of notable art installations of his lighting fixtures. Mainly names I am tagging.. of people who owned his lighting fixtures.. There are a treasure trove of letters written to the subject. We may upload.
- As for compensation this is only something we are trying out for the first time..no money is being exchanged. Wonder if we shared the link to the sandbox to a few friends that knew Cedric over the years. This guy seemed to know so many of the notable installation people listed on the list. Fellow designers we presume. EddieandSprout (talk) 01:48, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding, EddieandSprout. Please do read WP:Conflict of interest and declare this relationship on your user page. Given that you refer to yourself in the plural, I strongly suggest that you register a second account immediately. Note that unpublished letters can't be used on Wikipedia, using that kind of primary material is considered original research. The kind of reference material that would be useful would be newspaper, journal or magazine articles, exhibition catalogues, books and the like. Hope this helps. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 02:31, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Something I do quite often say we probably from commonality of being married.. 2600:100A:B058:44B7:7849:19E5:DB82:D (talk) 02:37, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

- Should i start from scratch and use wizard to create a new draft in sandbox? It’s hard to give up.. used to writing more from the hip but the cross linking and citations from credible sources is available. This has been a learning experience. EddieandSprout (talk) 11:32, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- You don't need to necessarily start from scratch, but you will need to remove any of the flowery and promotional language. I'd suggest reading a number of other biographies on Wikipedia; you want to strike a very specific encyclopaedic tone which can be really hard if you're not used to it. CoconutOctopus talk 12:17, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Understandable we see quite a few examples to learn from. There is some cross over in the language writing we use at the day job that uses structured language. Looking into some examples that are cross linked to in other bios from people that used this subjects product to read by. Flowering can be left to our user handles and in our learning how to write in encyclopedic tone help topic threads. Here are some similar subjects we found: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Hollis_Jones EddieandSprout (talk) 13:18, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Charles Hollis Jones is fairly poorly referenced; especially for a living person it is best to have an inline source for absolutely everything. But it might indeed be easier to create something very short and to the point...
- Cedric Hartman (born 1929) is an American designer known for his work on light fixtures, in particular the 1UWV floor lamp (1966).[ref][ref][ref]
- ...might be a place to start, if you can find two or three sources that say something like that. Then just expand incrementally using only what reliable independent sources write about him.
- If the lamp is the only design that Hartman is noted for, it might be better to start an article on the lamp itself, which gets round the difficulties of writing a biography of a living person. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 04:11, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- The exciting thing about working on this entry is seeing all the light fixtures hidden down all the rabbit holes on other pages.. Most likely less reputable sources but a treat to spot like in a where’s Waldo book.. curbing the flowery language is tough..thanks again. EddieandSprout (talk) 15:27, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

- Looking for help on the comment of Cedric Hartman Draft declined.
- Modified the wording to sound more encyclopedic. Looking for more insight on the comment to remove external links. Which sections should we bulldoze these links from. The notable installations list. Should we remove this section entirely?
- Kind regards, EddieandSprout (talk) 19:48, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- We is me. It comes from habit. EddieandSprout (talk) 19:49, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- If the links are actually being used as references, just convert them into a reference and cite them as such. But a lot of the detail is probably excessive (yes, the "notable installations" very much so). Even with the exhibits and such, many barely mention Hartman, or in some cases, like
1978 High Museum - Art in Decoration
, that has this link after it (), which does not mention him at all, not even a name drop. Remove any editorializing; as some examples, surprisingly low profile
("surprising" to whom?),quickly became a favorite
("quickly" and "favorite" according to whom?). It's not a resume, so the "education", "timeline", etc., should be written as prose, not bullet lists. Basically, just stick to facts confirmed by reliable and independent sources, and state them in very plain, neutral language; don't embellish or "talk up". And stick to the stuff reliable sources found most significant; the goal is to give an overview, not to be exhaustive. Also, probably most if not all of the quotations should go, promotional language in quote marks is still promotional language. Seraphimblade Talk to me 05:09, 16 February 2025 (UTC)- Thanks Serraphimblade,
- Went through removing bullet items and created prose. See what you think. We can accept blood from your editing blade any day. This is a learning experience for me.

You are right delete this puppy.. We tried our hat at revising an initial Wikipedia entry and have failed to come up with early citations but who knows maybe someone may step up to the plate and pitch in more goodies. The photo credited of Cedric Hartman was taken by Vera Mercer but way before I received proofs from the guy who works with Cedric. They are uploaded to the commons image board but can be eliminated if they violate copyright. Show us some of the links to be deleted and we can continue to hone down all informal citations;)

Hello, I'm Oshwah. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to And the Ass Saw the Angel because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:49, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- All good. But how can we find a better citation for that statement. Since we know the content exists. It seems that many Wikipedia pages are moderated by people representing the person or subject in title.. EddieandSprout (talk) 12:52, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi EddieandSprout! Oh yeah, I've seen that many times before. The subject of an article or page will "moderate" it or believe that they have a level of ownership of the content (spoiler alert - they don't). This is typical of articles of people who don't meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines; I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you do see that, feel free to file a report here if they're becoming disruptive. ;-)
- The references that should be added to Wikipedia articles are those that come from reliable sources. They're secondary sources (meaning that they reference other sources) and are independent of the article subject (meaning that they're not sources that are controlled, belong to, or otherwise associated with the article subject). Since this is a novel, if it's received significant coverage - you shouldn't have too hard of a time locating references. If you don't find any, don't worry too much about it. In this situation, I'd say that it's better to leave that specific paragraph unreferenced compared to linking it to an Amazon, Spotify, or other location like that.
- I recommend that you give Wikipedia's content guideline on external links (specifically, this section that lists the external links to avoid). Generally, external links like that should not be added to the body of any articles. You're doing great here, and you didn't blow anything up with your edit. I figured I'd remove it and leave you a notice so that I could have the opportunity help you with this guideline if you were to respond and ask. Thankfully, you did! ;-) Please don't hesitate to reach out to me on my user talk page here if you run into any questions or need help with anything in the future. I'll be more than happy to lend you a hand and make sure that you're on the right track. Thanks again for the response and I wish you happy editing! :-D Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:15, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Tried to create a Wikipedia from scratch once.. it was a beast of a pet project.. still under review.. Can see how in the early days of Wikipedia how many entries made it past the draft stage and are now in heavy lacking citation status. Sometimes searching for citations can take one down a rabbit hole never to come out from never never land.. EddieandSprout (talk) 13:27, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

He’s way more interesting to talk to than trying to create another encyclopedic entry full of reputable citations created by news from who knows which political side of the fence we are on these daze.
