Conflict of interest re Grant Colburn
Hello, Grantco1313. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Grant Colburn, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the Edit Request Wizard), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.MarconiCheese (talk) 19:31, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- After making a request to have this entry reinstated a few days ago, I was told by others from Wikipedia that in order to keep it from potentially being deleted again it needed more outside references by authors which did not include me. These are what I have been adding as requested. I am not the original author of the Wikipedia entry. Grantco1313 (talk) 19:41, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Who the original author of the article was is completely irrelevant. Please read and heed the conflict of interest guideline. The guideline trumps whatever any random editor may have said or implied. MarconiCheese (talk) 00:30, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- So what do I do now? I didn't know I should have assumed other editors would give me bad advice. They said the article lacked references. I provided some as they told me to. I requested the article be undeleted. It was, then I was told adding more references would help it stay up. Until there was a problem I had no reason to assume I was given bad advice. - What should you do now? That's answered in the conflict of interest guideline: WP:COIEDIT, WP:DISCLOSE, and more. It takes less time to read than you've spent responding to me. MarconiCheese (talk) 04:17, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- It takes more time to understand what it says being someone who has never done any of this before than someone who seems to already know. In hindsight I've read the COI on what not to do, but didn't see where it said what to do after the fact.
- I merely found a page a few ago that said it was possible to get an article reinstated. I requested and I was told it was done. It was only afterwards that I was told by others things weren't that easy and then given bad advice by someone just like you. So far it sounds like I could jump through hoops only to find it deleted again anyways. If I can figure it out I'll do what I can. Grantco1313 (talk) 05:26, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
